Monday - Storage Wall

I really have no right to call my design wall a "design" wall. Right now it is just for storage of the blocks I'm making for #1 Grandgirl's wedding quilt. Here's what I'm storing so far.

This close up was to show how dark that purple one really is... the photo is lots brighter than what I see in the sewing room. I need to keep that in mind.

There was also a tragic loss. One of my favorite blocks got an extra cut last night. (Sniff) I hope I have some of that same fabric left (and can find it again). I made the 1" cut from the middle instead of the 3-1/8" cut for the clean up.... It might become a pot holder!

So off to check in at Design Wall Monday... come on by and see what others were doing this weekend.

Thanks for stopping by!  If you have an opinion on that dark block (or any other), please leave a comment. I'm thinking it's the "one of these things is not like the others.  One of these things does not belong." Do you remember that from Sesame Street?  My kids grew up on there.

Hugs,
Terri

  1. I was just sing that the yesterday! My design wall(floor) had a stand out block also. Being that I'm lazy, it's staying in the quilt as a humility block.

  2. I think if you think it doesn't look right, and you have the time and the fabric, take it out. . . you will forever look at the finish quilt and think "I really wish I would have..." OK, maybe you wouldn't but I totally know I would :)

  3. I used to love that segment on Sesame Street. Sorry about the block. I've done that a few times. I like all the blocks so far. I think they look nice together, at least in the picture.

  4. The way I see it you have two choices - you can leave the dark purple block in and make some other dark fabric blocks for balance or you can take it out and keep on with the lighter or pastel sort of blocks. It's all a question of visual balance. I think you could pull the dark block off if you do a few more.

  6. I piece blocks that stand out into a row as part of the backing.
I'm always doing mistaken cuts. That's part of the reason I have so many scraps

  7. I sing the same song with my students when we look at standardized test prep-- there is a cute YouTube version so they aren't subjected to my singing. If you like the purple and want to keep it, you could add a few more dark blocks to add interest or use it on the back. In any case, good progress. It will be a special quilt.
