Don't tell me that life is random..

Okay, this may sound a bit icky, but it is a beautiful moment in my life.

Today while using the facilities at my WinCo Grocery Store I heard a little girl singing to her mom. First she sang a little school song and then she started in on "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, You make me happy when skies are grey...." and then she paused a long while... like she forgot the words. I remembered them from singing them to my kids and granddaughter as a baby. (She the one who just got married.)  I picked up the slack. "You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."  Then she started over and sang the whole song through by herself. (I'm crying here with a big smile on my face.)

So random - No! She was there for me - I was there for her. Don't you think so?  Have you ever had a moment like that one? Please, do tell. I could use another smiling cry.
Hugs,
Terri

  1. That was my youngest sons favorite song when he was little. We had a little lion soft toy that hung on the side of the baby bed. If you pulled the legs of the toy it would play You are my Sunshine, for about a minute or two. Everyday for the first 3 years of his life the legs were pulled when I laid him down to sleep. As he grew into a real bed he'd cuddle the little lion and sing...You...sunshine.......take away. He couldn't sing the whole song. Then one day he pulled the lion legs and it broke! He screamed ...of course I ran to his bedroom, asking him what was wrong. Sunshine mommy, sunshine! His little lion and his little ole heart was broken. So for many many months I sat and sang the Sunshine song until he fell asleep. I can still hear that little voice trying it's best to find the words. My baby is 21 now, but it seems like yesterday. Thanks for sharing your story....I had a smiling cry too!

  2. That is such a sweet story. It made my heart sing. So did Podunk Pretties' sweet comment.

  3. Terri, what a special time. When you mentioned the song it brought back so many memories. And I was thrilled that someone so young actually knew the song.

It made me feel warm and happy. Such a wonderful song from my Mom's time. She used to sing Scarlett Ribbons to me at bedtime. I sang my Mom's songs to my kids: Green Grow the Lilacs, Love Makes the World Go Round, Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, Down in the Valley. Beautiful songs that I think will not make it another generation beyond my children.

  4. Thanks for sharing that special moment Terri. I really like that song too. My special moment spans a decade. I saved a crow's life in a drought Summer taking it home and looking after it as it was desperate for worms and water. Ten years on I was up a steep ladder painting the gable end of this house . The ladder was balanced on a platform so it could reach. As I was climbing up higher to try to do the chimney, a crow brushed my shoulder. I took it as a warning and counted the steps back down. When I looked at the ladder from the side, and counted back up the steps with my eyes, I could see that if I had taken another step, the ladder would've fallen backwards taking me and my can of paint with it. Messy! I like to think that it was just crow-kind repaying the favour. I was there for one of them and they were there for me. There has been work with crows and facial recognition, so it isn't a pure flight of fancy. Excuse the pun. :-)

  5. I hear that song and I cry. My daughter's nickname is Sunshine....so I get it. Thanks for sharing this story. Feeling deep is what makes us special in God's eyes, I think.

  7. I like those moments when you get a small chance to interact with strangers, especially children, and leave with a smile.
