Remember This?

This week I'm working on my newest Grandgirl;s baby quilt. She turns 1 early next month, and this is still a flimsy... for over a year! I started it when I knew she'd be a she.

I'm sandwiching on the dining room table - appropriate? I think so.  I'm using pins. See them at the upper right. Question: Do you put them in a line?  or this way and that? I'm putting them in the little secondary squares of green. I'm thinking I'll wavy line quilt down the legs of the Xs, right through the corners. It'll work great. The trouble  comes when I come upon an O. I'll have to come up with something else for the

Hugs,

Terri

  1. I remember this little cutie : )
When I pin baste a quilt, I'll use 3, 4 or 5 pins in each block and don't think about which way the pins are going. I think if you wavy line quilt through all the legs of the Xs, you can remove the pins and quilt through the Os. Just a thought. I look forward to seeing what you decide. Any way you do it, I'm sure she is going to love it! You made it for her!

  2. Hi Terri, I'm surfacing after handing in my latest assignment this morning. Your butterflies are wonderful! They are going to make a stunning quilt. Great that your grand daughter will soon have such a pretty quilt. Will it be for when she transitions to a big bed?

  4. I pin baste and put them in any which way....about 4" to 5" apart. I just stop and take them out as I approach them when quilting. Wavy lines will be great on this....and when you come to a circle just keep on going, I think it would be fine. glad you are getting this done for her....she will love it!

  5. I love the pinks! I pin where I'm not planning to quilt if possible. But I do make sure it's all square before I start pinning, and don't pin quite as close as my friend Cheryl who over pins in my opinion lol. I hate getting to a pin while quilting and having to maneurver the pin out of the sandwich with no room to move around. Pinning is still the best basting method to me. LeeAnna at not afraid of color

love the buterfly blocks!!! so much!

  7. Hi! Terri and a Happy New Year. Just caught up with all your quilts and cushions. Quite an industry. I like the blue you chose and what a clever idea checking with a box of crayons. Thanks you for allowing me to visit with you over Christmas. Lovely family.

  10. I'm sure you are done by now, but, I try to put the pins between where I want to start quilting. I only straight line quilt (by machine).

  11. Howdy, I'm trying to catch up on your posts! I always get behind. I'd love to have them emailed to me. I just forget to look at my blogger dashboard. Bad me. No excuses!

Like Cheryl said, you're probably all done pinning. I try to get my pins 4-5 inches apart. I follow some sort of pattern so the pins aren't all in columns. I'll pin odd blocks on one row then even blocks on the next. I just eyeball it as I go along.

I'm so helpful aren't I? I might as well tell you to take a handful of pennies and throw them up in the air. Where they land on the quilt is where you put a pin. Hmmm, I might try that. It would relieve the stress of "is this the right place to pin?" "should I put this one closer?" etc.
