So glad to be here safe. Lots of experiences and only one bad - so far - we blew the muffler on the car, so it's really noisy. Not a devastating problem.... but quite annoying. Furniture won't arrive until the 13th, so no sewing for a while.....Boo Who!

Sew awhile for me, please.

Hugs,

Terri
Terrihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08927552672720816359noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2810577866125412069.post-66430067584680026672023-10-04T19:15:00.000-07:002023-10-04T19:15:30.989-07:00On the road - no pics
Right now I'm in Rock Springs WY at the Holiday Inn. He dumped a bunch of snow and is still snowing. Winds were 35-50 mph, but have now subsided. Neighbors are out shoveling and the neighbor boy is shoveling for us! It's paper pieced and part of a "Backyard Birds" quilt I made for my son's birthday in 2009 (I think). The pattern was from the book "365 Paper Piecing Patterns". See.... not cute or funny. I like yours better, JR.
This one -dragonfly- showed up on my screen yesterday. They are supposed to be good luck...we could use some.

Hope this one is good luck for you, too.
Tried a new batch of fabrics from my stash. found my Fairy Frost fabrics... there is a green (Fairy Frost) winged one in this first picture with a red body and white background.

See the bird fabric here on the bottom of the above picture. I bought it for making birds... I have a box in my stash for fabrics that look like birds to me. And the blue with lime green in it is left over from last year's H2H quilt. I paired it with oranges then - looks good with an orange body and lime background.
Orange Fairy Frost body with green speckled wings and yellow background. I bought a bunch of Fairy Frost for making birds from a gift certificate I got for Christmas one year from Sheila of Sew Cook and Travel. Thanks again Sheila.

Some of my favorite fabrics are here in this batch. I really love this orange with purple accents that is second to the last in the picture above (green body and dark purple background). Top right in this picture is some Fairy Frost blue... You have to cut into it as some point - if you don't, your inheritor will get to use it. I really don't know who that might be.

Nothing else is going on here. I am suffering another bout of trouble with my sciatica, brought on when I blew out my right knee... climbing the stairs! Who says exercise is good for you?

I have a few more I'll share when I have more done...

Happy Hump Day to you all,

I've been using mostly scraps so far, but now I'll be getting out the bigger pieces in my stash to make all the butterflies that I want to make and make them all different. I'm still enjoying the process.

Below are close ups that I especially like. The layout will change, of course. You can't have same colors next to each other.... And a couple of them are just wrong... like the polka dot and pink butterfly with the pink background on the top row. What was I thinking?
I do like the leopard print, but the pink one next to it looks like a dumbbell. Anyway, back to the cutting mat. (First I need some Tylenol!)

I had trouble getting the background on correctly, so I made a paper piecing pattern. You may notice I had a problem with that, too. Oh well, these are wonky ones. I'll fix the pattern for the next ones. I've been itching to make something paper pieced, you know me.

So on this blog I am sharing the stories of the quilts that I'm giving to the Hands to Help Comfort quilts challenge. I'll show the quilts again and the sordid truths about them. LOL

This one started out as a Squirrel Quilt...

You know how squirrel quilts can be... so exciting to start, so tedious to finish. I liked the color scheme from an ad in a magazine, and I love the white and muslin background pieces on other quilts I have seen, but just not the way I did it.

This red and muslin quilt is Cherry Pie - my third quilt, and it's been in the UFO pile since the 90s. It's huge, and I just don't feel like finishing it. There are a few blocks cut that I will send with to Victoria's in Canada... in case she needs to add to the part she cuts off of this one.

The next two may need to be sewn together to be big enough, but that should be easy. These are "made" fabric pieces I made a couple of summers ago. There are orphan blocks and paper pieced blocks included in each. Close up photos show those blocks.

And here is the baby quilt for Jack's Basket. Some of my favorite multicolored fabrics with two sided "frames". It's an easy quilt to make, and I made it for a friend to give to a grandchild. I asked and asked for an address, but none was offered. I have two other quilts for the other grandkids that aren't as yet finished. They will be donated somewhere when they are finished, too.
My younger son, Scot, graduated from Arizona State University with honors. (Yep, gold tassel and rope, and a special sash given to military graduates, he was quite colorful. We got to watch the ceremony on the computer.) He retired from the Air Force several years ago, and went to school. He is now student teaching 7 or 8th grade science, and already has a job for next fall teaching 8th grade science. I'm very proud of him!

I also got a traditional Mom's Day gift. They usually send cut flowers, but this year I got a hibiscus plant. I've always wanted one. Several of the buds are slightly colored already to bloom, but lots are still green. Looks like the flowers will be orange or gold colored. Thanks Kids. I'm very happy with it.

Here is an email I recently received.

You’ve received this email because you have content in Google+ for your personal (consumer) account or a Google+ page you manage.
This is a reminder that on April 2, 2019 we’re shutting down consumer Google+ and will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted.
Downloading your Google+ content may take time, so get started before March 31, 2019.
No other Google products (such as Gmail, Google Photos, Google Drive, YouTube) will be shut down as part of the consumer Google+ shutdown, and the Google Account you use to sign in to these services will remain. Note that photos and videos already backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.
For more information, see the full Google+ shutdown FAQ.
From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place.
You have received this mandatory email service announcement to update you about important changes to your Google+ Page, product or account.

Anybody else get this message on e-mail? I'm not doing it! I may be a nonblogger soon, but I'm not doing it. Junk having to do with the computer is just getting to be too much trouble for me. I've enjoyed reading my old blogs from time to time. Lots of good memories that I won't be able to read anymore after April 1. Or is this an elaborate and nasty April Fools day prank? They sure chose a bad day for a change over. So if there is anything on my blog that you want to see, look now or be disappointed.

Hugs,
The blue is more aqua and the dots are a copper metallic color and feel. I love the pink and yellow print. So cheery.
(Working early on the H2H quilt for Happy Chemo.) Hands to Help Comfort Quilt Challenge starts on Sunday (tomorrow).

I'm calling it a "Wonky Wedge". I tried to use a limited pallet of blue, purple and green.
Below is the first 4 blocks sewn together (upper left). Blocks always look better after being pressed and sewn together, don't you think so?

Sew I have been using my green scraps... This quilt is easy and uses your scraps, even strips work.

Close ups are a few of my favorite prints.

Blocks are made from a 5" square of white (121 are a mix of two different prints of white on white and some off white), then sew varying size and shape triangles onto each. Somehow I made some bloopers that went the wrong way. I figured it is just another part of "wonky".

We are supposed to get a snow storm starting this evening, but the weather people can't decide if it will be 1" or 8". We will see. We do have enough already. I'm tired of shoveling, and I only helped a couple of times.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs
For the month of February I've made one yellow butterfly... today.
I haven't much in the way of yellow scraps.

I've been making these wonky 5" squares in blues, greens and purples - mostly from scraps. I thought I'd set them as stars, but there aren't the right way points,, I made them like these. I do like them all pointing in the same direction.

I still have a bunch to add to the design wall. I'm thinking this will be a H2H quilt.

I'm still waiting for an address to send out the baby quilts.... no charge, but I can't just wish them there.

Hugs to my Sis in Florida. Thanks for the Hope you provide with the Facebook updates... Today we had a plumber here to snake our sewer that backed up. Messy business. At least I can do laundry now.

Hugs to my quilty friends, too. Thanks for stopping by to read my little blog.
