Missing a Color

Finished my fourth Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for this year... I have purple, aqua, red and green. Still missing one. Just remembered the Multicolored month... I only made one strip of geese that month.  Here are the greens I finished this week.

RSC for February 11 -17

Did 2 geese strips the same this week - one starts dark and goes to light, and the other is opposite.... oh and one butterfly. I cut the two goose strips at the same time - saves choosing time.

I have another butterfly in the wings... There is still more than half the month left so I don't feel pressured to finish right away.

Then there were four

My blue butterflies - (We saw two real ones on a hike in Sequoia National Park in CA with my daughter and her family some years ago. It was a wonderful experience and a beautiful memory...)

Tomato Tornado and the Carrot Cluster

Here are the latest tomatoes laid out on the ironing board. No Squeezing!
 (I got 3 pair done this week and the business end of 6 carrots, too)

I'm using the tomatoes as Red blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge

It's a fun challenge, and just interesting to see all the different blocks in red this month.

Design Wall Monday

I have a new Design Wall.
You remember that I'm trying to sell my house, and the design wall my hubby made was foam core nailed - with huge nails - to the wall. Well, that come down this week and the holes were patched and the whole thing painted... by my hubby, seen here hamming it up.

He did a wonderful job, you can't see the nail holes even when you know where they were!
I'd buy this house!

But, please don't think I have no place to design... (Oops! double negative...)

Some patterns for the next paper piecing project. I'm making potholders for some of my peeps.

 

Above is a new "I love you" hand in the works.

 

Oh, and this occurred this week. A hole. I picked the flowers for a backing on a H2H quilt, and had to add some extra fabric... did not notice that there was a big dip cut out of the middle edge of the flower fabric. Noticed that while sewing together. What to do?

 

See the hole is quite big.

 

To the rescue.... a little paper pieced apple core, fray checked and zig zag stitch and now it's a whole.

 

 

 All for the backing to this....

 This is the quilt with the apple core on the back. I pin basted on my dining room table. It was easier on my back than putting it up on the design wall (now nonexistent) and stitching the basting. Since then I've done some straight line stitch in the ditch, but I don't like it... Gotta do the yellow with yellow, and redo the blue, too. So there is some ripping out in my future. You know I'm putting that off.
Sew that's what I'm up to... How about you? What project occupies your mind this week? Our neighborhood has a parade of school kids on the 4th...

Folsom Quilt Show, Puddles and Found Rainbow Blocks

I went Saturday last to see the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild Show... took some pictures of the entries that impressed me...Like these:

I'm always impressed by the applique. Sew pretty, sew difficult.

This picture and the one below are for Melanie, and those of you who embroider on your quilts. I liked the simplicity of the whole quilt.

Imagine making all those Yoyo pieces! Colors look like the 30s. Huge "quilt".

I liked this for a QoV. Sometimes it's the idea I like.

 

 This one (above and below) was really different. Even looking closely, I couldn't tell if the red doodles were quilting or just "written" on there.

 These two are on my quilt bucket list.

Isn't the border treatment interesting?

 

 

And a fish. I have a book with the directions, just never tried it yet.

(Too many quilts, not enough time.)

 Here is Johnson Lake - puddles in our front yard. It didn't rain that much, but the ground was dry, and it takes a while for it to absorb. This was the first time (in 14 years that we have lived here) we had puddles this big on the lawn.

 Look what I found while digging in my fabric boxes to find the 9.5" rotary cutter ruler. (Still haven't found it.)  Blocks made several years ago during the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I've got some other blocks started, too, so I think this one might work for an H2H quilt donation...
 It's coming soon. Sarah is getting ready.

Paper Piecing Tutorial Link, Wonky Stars and a Flimsy at last!

First I want you to know about the Paper Piecing Tutorial. Jen O. has a video on her blog today that is very informative. I've paper pieced for over 5 years now, and I learned lots. Check it out at Sewhooked.com

Sorry it's been a while since I posted last. Here's what I've been doing. (Besides cleaning and primping for home showings.  We did sell the house once, but it fell through once we all figured out the timing.  So now we start over.)

For the Rainbow Scrap Challenge: Just one more block...

And it is finally a flimsy for the new grandgirl to be. (Wouldn't it be a surprise if the doctor missed something and she is a he? I am a perverse granny.) Still some paper to pull - just the little crumbs that don't come straight off the first time. It really looks more colorful here even though it's a fuzzy photo. I tried to keep it low grade value wise.

So I'm going to link up to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge tomorrow, and to Sarah's Whoop Whoop today. (Links are in the side panel.) Come on by and see what others have been working on.

Blue Blocks and Rearrangement of Kisses

I wanted to get in on the Rainbow Challenge this year. I made these blocks to enter. (I hope the linky is still open.) I like the blue sooo much that I might just make a whole quilt of the blue with yellow or white stars.  I've got lots more blues that I didn't include here.

 

 

 

Here are the rearranged blocks for the grandgirl quilt. I subbed out a few really bright ones. I wanted this quilt to be lots more subtle than it is, but I have to have variety when I sew, so...
