Working on Two Charity Challenges!

Hello Friends,
We are getting ready for Easter. Our son, daughter in law and newest grandson are coming over!!!!  We're going to have porcupine meatballs, baked potatoes and carrots (in honor of the bunny).  Maybe we'll partake on the patio...  rain is predicted... but you know how the weatherman is usually wrong.

Anyway, I have the flimsy done for the palms quilt I've been working on.  I'd show it off, but it needs ironing. I do have some pictures to share.

Sneak peek: one of my UFOs is going to be a quilt for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge (see the side bar for the beam over button - quilts donated all go to charity. (Join in by Sat. (tomorrow) to get in on the giveaway!) It is my favorite charity! They give quilts to a wide range of people... I like that.)  Here's a sampling of my UFO.

I've had it squirreled away for almost a decade. Time to make it into something!

And the Fandom in Stitches Project of Doom Charity I thought I was too busy to join in will be getting at least 2 blocks. It's a Harry Potter thing, so you know I couldn't stay away. See the button at the right if you'd like to make a few blocks. One winner gets the blocks or a quilt, (unsure about that part) and the rest of the blocks are going into Project Linus quilts. That's a worthy charity, too.

So far I've made one cauldron brewing Felix Felicis (the good luck potion). The other pattern will be Hedwig. She's going to be hard to make,  the background has to be white and she is white. Dilemma!

Sew that is all for me today. Wishing you all a Happy Easter, or a wonderful spring break, or both!

Edit:  Linking up at So Scrappy to show off some orange. Also, Confessions of a Fabric Addict and A Creative Princess where I'm # 148, I think. Check them out, there's lots of creative things to see.

80 Palm Blocks Done (see header) and cute bird visitor

I've finally finished all the blocks I'm going to make for this quilt. There may be some rearranging... the last that were made have a different look to them than the first, so I'm going to integrate them into the others. (I used more prints as the stems and it makes for a bubbly look that I like, but don't want them all at the bottom.)

A couple of closeups.

And now some birdy pics. Last week we discovered this quail in our pecan tree (planted from a nut by my oldest son about 10 years ago).  The California Quail pappa looked around for quite a while... I hope he was considering our yard for his home. They are such cute birds. (He's on the bottom branch of the tree that isn't dead, just hasn't leafed out - and isn't mature enough to make nuts yet. I'm thinking our squirrels are crossing their claws waiting.)

So you can see we are having lots of excitement at our house.  Hope you are having fun with spring coming soon.

Hugs,
Terri

I got new fabric!

I got a really lovely package of fabric in the mail today from the Fat Quarter Shop. Four colors of Fairy Frost, MMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Isn't it pretty. It has a wonderful iridescence. Thank you, Sheila!
I picked these 4 as hummingbird colors.

Basket Case

I did it! I met the basket challenge posed to me by Sheila from Sew Cook and Travel . She's working on a Barn Along now... go check out her space.

Here's my basket.
Cute, huh?

So now I'm back to working on the Palm blocks. I've been playing hooky all month

Today is the tomorrow of yesterday...

(There's a fun voting opportunity on Fandom in Stitches today. I have two of the entries, but you don't have to vote for me.)
some other paper piecing

First I want to thank you all for your patience with my Harry Potter February. I don't know what I was thinking... some of you don't like HP, but I enjoyed myself.  I tried to make it more about paper piecing than HP.

The giveaway today was a silent tally of supporters, comments on my work. You didn't know how to enter, heck, you didn't even know there was a contest going on. I wanted to give back to my best supporters, those who consistently leave comments. So there will be some Magic Fat Quarters in the mail for Sheila of Sew Cook and Travel and the tied supporter Cheryl of  Cheryl's Teapots 2 Quilting.  And in second place, but a near third tie, Shay of  Quilting in My Pyjamas. I appreciate your time and your words of encouragement, and your friendship. Love you gals!   And to all of you who stopped by and left a comment or two during the month - Love you, too.

Hugs,
Terri

Homemade Rabbit Foot Fern

For my "Baby" Sis - here known as Beany - a look at the Rabbit Foot Ferns in my possession.

First the newest member of the family - Cute, huh?

Another view

And this is "Mom".  The fuzzy parts are probably rhizomes... I put one into a little pot without cutting the root, and that's how I got Jr. after 2 years or so. Once there were fronds (leaves) I cut it off of the Mom. Below is another view of Mom.

I'm starting two more. I hope they grow faster. Below is the laundry cup that I used to put up next to the Mom and set a rhizome on the soil and then water to keep moist... until it has fronds.

The whole thing is on the top of my guest shower. I've got plants everywhere.

So it isn't tomorrow yet... two people won the giveaway! You will just have to wait for tomorrow to find out who.

Hugs,
Terri

A Gryffindor Chair

Okay, I'm still working on the contest at Fandom in Stitches called the Fabulous Fandom Mashup. Here's my latest, and last, entry:

It's a paper pieced pattern from the Children/Animated section associated with Blue's Clues (the thinking chair)... I'm calling it a Squashy Chair from the Gryffindor Common Room - in Gryffindor colors. The prize is a T-Shirt, so wish me luck.

Gotta get this loaded up to the Flickr group and labeled.
Thanks for stopping by.... giveaway tomorrow.
Hugs,
Terri

Spiderman symbol

So the challenge was supposed to be choosing a pattern at Fandom in Stitches from one fandom, and applying it to another. I paper pieced this spider:

I made some minor adjustment - the pincers larger, and the top legs on the bottom are larger by a little. It's Spiderman or as a spider it's Ron's Worst Nightmare.

Now the thing is that I don't find anything about the challenge at the Flickr group, and it all was due at Midnight March 1, 2013. I wonder if I'm the only one who participated, or if I'm off by a day, or maybe it's Jennifer's other site. We shall see. I do like the pattern, however, it isn't a beginner pattern.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll probably link this up to some party tomorrow.

Hugs,
Terri
