Squirrel quilt progress and one yellow butterfly

I love the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, but I haven't participated with much reliability.  For the month of February I've made one yellow butterfly... today.

I haven't much in the way of yellow scraps.

I've been making these wonky 5" squares in blues, greens and purples - mostly from scraps. I thought I'd set them as stars, but there aren't the right way points,, I made them like these. I do like them all pointing in the same direction.

I still have a bunch to add to the design wall. I'm thinking this will be a H2H quilt.

I'm still waiting for an address to send out the baby quilts.... no charge, but I can't just wish them there.

Hugs to my Sis in Florida.  Thanks for the Hope you provide with the Facebook updates... Today we had a plumber here to snake our sewer that backed up.  Messy business.  At least I can do laundry now.

Hugs to my quilty friends, too.  Thanks for stopping by to read my little blog.

Green for March

I've been wanting to try half square triangles... I found a pinwheel pattern I like and I think it'd be a great project to do for Rainbow Scrap Challenge, BUT I had all kinds of trouble making my first two.

I figure the trouble with my points comes from the trimming.  More practice is necessary.

Linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge tomorrow.

Have a great weekend.

Blue Butterflies and Black Geese

I have been piecing,  honest!  These are for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday next.  This month's color is light blue.

These black geese were for the RSC also, but I didn't get to taking any pictures. The color triangles are from the same piece of fabric, the others are each from a different black scrap.

Next up, four different snowflakes with light blue skies.... paper pieced, of course.

Happy Humpday!

Last Pink Saturday

I found some string blocks to work on, and added 4 pink ones this week (amongst other monochromatic themed squares) to the collection. (Go to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge to see what others are doing with pink.)

We had SNOW yesterday and quite a lot of it is sticking... see yesterdays post for pictures.

Have a great weekend.

Orange and Pink Geese

OK last month was the orange month... I finished my 5 strips of geese just now.

And this month is pink... I did these a while ago.

So I'm caught up with those. I have a couple of neutrals made. Guess I should make the other 3 and maybe 5 greys.

Last Sunday we went to a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives destination in Delta Wisconsin... (Not the one in town here in Superior.)  We thought we would see some of the leaf colors changed, and we did, but not much.

Anyway it was a diner... not as homey as the one in Vancouver Washington that we enjoyed so much.

Here's a picture of it being modeled by my hobby, the substitute teacher.

Have a wonderful weekend.

This Week's Blocks

One blue butterfly and a strip of neutral geese...  The geese will be shown on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge linky party tomorrow. The new color is orange for September, and I just happen to have a strip of orange geese done, too.
I'll also show the blue butterfly at Fret Not Yourself .  They are sharing an easy butterfly pattern at that link.  Looks like it would be fun and wonky.

And here it is... 4 more to do this month.

The body of the butterfly is a fabric that changes colors from blue to red - seemed appropriate to me.

And I started a swan.  Plan on making 2 of them.  So far I only have the #1s and a few #2s ready to sew.

It's supposed to rain here again tomorrow, but nothing like Texas.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Finished a blue, and started a tan

Since I got my sewing machine back from the fixit place, I've been working on the butterflies...

Still in pieces, but only 4 seams left.

I'm so happy with my sewing machine. It is working so nicely, except the light.  They said they fixed it, but it's not working. There is a warantee on the work, so back it goes. Should be able to fix it while I wait, shouldn't they?

So come along to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge to see the other neutrals being shown.

Happy Weekend,
Terri

More Green Geese

We saw a bunch of baby geese today.  These are not them.

Bet you wonder how I get them to hang out sideways from the pins.... they are flying! Magic!
2 more strips to make this week - I can do that.

Linking to the RSC.

Tomorrow I'm showing my H2H donation finished. (It's gone in the mail, but I'll get it up on the blog, somehow - Magic again!) Come on by and see it.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Changed my Mind - Again

I've abandoned the scalding colors of the star quilt I was making for H2H. It just didn't set right with me mind, not right for a kid at camp. Then I thought of using my butterflies.... would be great, but it's mostly white and there aren't enough of them. I've decided on a string quilt with a central block of paper piecing - if it turns out nice. The block is a free pattern from Janeen over at Quilt Art Design. This month (only April) she has an Intermediate pattern for a darling little fawn that I just couldn't pass up. Go ahead - give it a look. You won't be able to resist.

Some cutting was done for the string parts, that should work for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge as well as the H2H offering. There are pictures!

Already cut strips (above) and (below) is the stack of other I Spy favorites I plan to use.

More kid friendly...and not all white.

Went to see the eye doctor. He said my double vision is from a nerve stripping, a result of Diabetes.  Should be done in a couple of months... (Sciatica took almost a year, so we shall see.) The eyes see fine on their own, but together I see like a drunk! Everything is double. It could be worse though. While we waited the doctor took a call cause he was on call. The 94 year old lady's eye blew up! (She needs it removed.) I'm a lucky girl.

Have a wonderful weekend!

March: The Red Month

As you know I jumped the gun and sewed ahead.  The five red geese are finished for March, and I made one red butterfly and a red leaf, too.

Next pictures are of the star blocks for the H2H charity quilt made with the "found" bundle of 5" squares that I made years ago for another Jazzy Snowball Quilt like the one I donated in 2013 (seen below).

The last two aren't pressed yet.  I've got another 2 in the works, and that will be the main focus of sewing here until that quilt is done.

Thanks for stopping. Go over to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday and see what others have made red.

Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Terri

Join the Kaleidoscope of Butterflies

I joined the Kaleidoscope of Butterflies. It's a cause I believe in.  Our world is getting ugly enough without losing one of the beautiful elements - butterflies.  (Some people are big into politics, some into human rights, some into animal rights... this is my little cause.) Use the link above and you'll learn some ways you can help the butterflies stay around.

You Followers know I've been making paper pieced butterflies for ages...

These two are simplified from patterns in 365 Paper Pieced Patterns - my bible... a gift from my sister years ago.

 Ditto here.

The above three are some of the patterns I bought from Claudia. They are more difficult, but well worth the work.

The above 3 pictures are some of the little butterflies I have been making for years now during the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I'm up to 61!  (If I have my way, I'll have 62 by tomorrow.) It's a pattern I bought years ago... It says 2005 MH Designs on it.

Anyway, that's the latest. Check out the link, see if you might like to encourage the little beauties to grace your life.

Hugs,
Terri

Purples, Papier Piecing and Circles in a Square

This week I've done more than I have in weeks. I tried out a paper piecing pattern I got from Quiltmaker  (online) called Vintage Sunburst. It worked up into four strips of Flying Geese. They are quite small...2 1/2" x 9 3/4" each strip. I think there might be one purple I used twice, but I didn't use all of my purples - even by a long shot.  If I have chosen the colored fabrics first it still takes about 1.5 hours each strip. (I love 'em.)

Last year I didn't get in on the 365 challenge, and really admire the results of others, so I started my own this week. I've decided to use fabrics out of my 3 boxes of Multicolored fabrics. These two are the only ones so far. I'm appliqueing the circles to low impact colors.  I made a template that I can iron with and using starch to iron a circle, then I pin it into place and hand stitch. (I need something to keep my hands busy while watching TV at night, otherwise I go to check out the kitchen too often.)

Here's a close-up of the purple one... I love the gold worked into it.

Sew that is all for this week. I'll be making some more Flying Geese soon. I'll be linking to Sarah's Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? today, and to Angela's  Rainbow Scrap Challenge  tomorrow.

We are having the January Thaw here... It even rained today. What a slushy mess.

Have a great weekend.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge today!

I have always wanted to make this block... it's just as easy as can be. Mine here are 2.5" strips.

I wish you could see how pretty that lavender strip is.  I remember buying the darkest one. I got it in Vancouver at the Craft Warehouse.
So this is one of the blocks I want to make for RSC. Next week I show some stars I want to make. Now I'm off to share this with the rest of the group at The Rainbow Scrap Challenge

Have a wonderful weekend.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge Butterfly

Remember these?  Well, I found my pattern and made one in September colors.

The navy blue is my ironing board cover.  Scissors for size comparison.
Check in with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge at soscrappy on Saturday Sept. 24 to see what others have made from these colors.

Have a great weekend.

Hot Pink and Lime Green a Favorite Combo

Even though I'm playing hooky for a while I did make a couple pieces of the right colors...

These below are from last year, before pink and lime were a designated combo.  Guess I'm ahead of the times.

Putting these up on soscrappy for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Happy Summer Everyone.

Terri

June Oneth!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge has set the colors for June 2016 for blues and lime green! Just the colors I want to use for a Storm At Sea for my Alyssa (granddaughter).  I'm starting a wedding quilt for her...
Still working on the Love Ring (uses the Drunkard's Path pattern) for another granddaughter (Rachael) getting married some time (this month?). They'll probably be given late... I'm no where near to the finish.
Val is looking for a few good quilters to join in her I Spy fabric exchange. Check her blog for the rules. I have some fabrics, but not the right stuff.

My African Violet is really outdoing itself this year. I've pinched a few of the leaves and started 4 for the Halloween giveaway.  Hope they all take. Here I think that indoor plants will be more desired. Lots of the plants I brought with me have died. Lack of sunshine, is the cause, I think.

Well, back to the secret project that everyone knows about... I was just too excited about it not to share.  Got a star nearly done and two different hands cut out and fabric chosen. Gotta find a few more patterns, (Just remembered some butterflies I made years ago.) maybe some I Spy fabrics, too.  (Star, below, still needs to be sewn together.)

Sew, that is all from here. Hope your there is sunny and warm... we are not!

Hugs,
Terri

Design Wall Monday, and Angels

The July color is red over at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and last month's blocks for the Itty Bitty Row Along were these little hearts, so that is what is on my design ironing board. Later on in this post you can see the real work horse ironing board I invented to iron the flimsy and it's backing before sending off to the quilter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lately I've been seeing Angels in the clouds... Here is the one I saw 2 days ago

And here is the ironing facility I invented... a cotton blanket covered by a cotton sheet on top of my dining room table.  You can move the whole thing in order to get to the unironed spots. (I ironed from the bottom of the flimsy so I'd get the seam allowances to go where I wanted them.)

Today I've gotta find a box and then ship it.

Now I see how Bargello works - I might make another MUCH SMALLER quilt like it.

Hope you all are enjoying some beautiful weather. It's been unbearably hot here, but the heat only lasts for a few looooooooong hours in the afternoon. We can manage this. Our next home is in cool country and we are looking forward to that.

Hugs,

It's July Tomorrow!

and Red is the color of this hot month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Appropriate.
So as usual I went to my authority to see what red might look like... (I didn't get to go to Kindergarten...)

Here are my findings:

I was quite surprised at how purple Magenta was, compared to the color they marked as Red. On my computer printer the only 'Red' is Magenta, so how does it print Red?

I also wonder what the difference could be between Red Violet and Violet Red?  Well, here you go, you can see for yourself. My camera is pretty close on all the colors  except the Brick Red. To my eye, it's a bit browner, but what do I know. I love the Wild Strawberry, but then I love all the reds - that's why the hearts.

I've packed up the butterfly patterns and blocks, so I'll be making red hearts this month... until I move mid month. Any suggestions on how to keep my plants cool in a U-Haul?     (This is the last time I'm moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

So we will see you on Saturday at soscrappy for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. (See the button on the side.)

Hugs
