Bought the backing and other purchases

It's gorgeous - looks a bit like a brocade wedding dress. Notice it's Fairy Frost... a tiny bit of a shimmer.

 This is the "right" side - later in the day, so the white is taking on a bit of gold color from the lamp light.

 Then I saw this, and couldn't leave the store without some - one yard is all.

This is the pedigree on this one.

I'm going to try this. I want this quilt to be all it can be. I'll report back.

And on the way out I bought a yummy fat quarter. (Medicinal use only.)

 

So I had a great time at the LQS - Meisner's. They are taking in vacuum cleaners to sell... the fabric section is smaller. Bad sign.  Good thing I shopped there. We all need to keep our LQSs in business.

 

I've got it washed, ironed dry, sewn together and ready to sandwich and baste. Now where did the Helper Hubby go?

Only one seam all week!

Oh the horror! Last week my machine started making a grinding sound... I was confident it only needed oil and lubrication... I'd just cleaned it a day or two before, because of the noise.  Did it, and no relief!  So Monday I took it to my local fixit guys... 2 weeks before they can even get to it!!!!!!!!!!!  No loaners available either.  I started having withdrawals... So then I bought an interim at Wal-Mart. That might have been my first mistake.

It's a Singer Sew Mate. Even though I have had 2 other Singers there was quite a learning curve.  The threading, bobbin filling and installation were so different.  When I felt confident enough, I sewed the one seam. It was bunchy at the start, but we overcame that problem, and finished that seam.  Stitches looked good, so we loaded up the next seam with pins, and tried again... that was the second mistake. After that only bunchy happened. I must have the bobbin in wrong, or the threading wrong somewhere. Anyway it was time to fix supper...  I'll try again this morning.

(Notice my sewing buddy, my Hedwig? She keeps me company while I sew.   Do you have a sewing buddy to keep you sane?)

Report on the Lighted Seam Ripper

Here's the thousand words...

As you can see the seam ripper lights, magnifies and slips into the 15 stitches to the inch stitches really easily. The working end can swivel a bit so it is at an angle you prefer. (That's the first paper pieced block of a QOV I'm thinking of giving to my Son who will be retiring from the Air Force within a year. All the blocks will have either a blue or red center and white around the edges. I might add a strip of white between rows, too.)

You know we've  been packing to move - 2,000 miles away.  We're finding things while we pack...

This is the Hubby in his old letter jacket from High School. (His sister used the jacket after he went to the military, and the letters have never been seen since.) And the old glasses he wore when we were dating....  I know, why did I marry him? Anyway, he makes me laugh, and that's a good thing. We are lucky he couldn't fit into the gym shorts... very lucky.

 

See in the background the "end of boot camp" pictures of our two sons? I'm very proud of them.

 

So it's Friday (again and already)! Really doesn't mean much when you are retired. But I hope you all are enjoying a lovely (sew filled) weekend.
