Strings Arrangement

Done with the blocks.  (Sorry about the pictures.)

Same picture without the ironing board intruding.

The red blocks are not like the others... a little bit too much saturated color. Seems like they are the only blocks that register as dark. Even the purple on the left isn't as dark.  Taking a picture to look at the arrangement is a neat way to step back from the quilt and see things like the reds. I could make 2 different blocks to replace them, but I don't want to. What do you all think? It is now 5 by 7 blocks... Each should finish at 8" so I've got a top that is 40" x 56" - that should be an okay size for a H2H quilt, don't you think so?  Do I need a border?  I'm really not that good at them.

Lots of these strings are garnered from swaps with 2 of my favorite blogger buddies, Val of
Val's Quilting Studio and Terri of Quilting Nonnie . Getting something in the mail (besides bills) sure brightens my day.   I should sponsor a blogland wide swap one of these days. What would you all like to share? 10  I Spy 10" squares?  How about 5 - 10" strips (2.5" wide) in random colors?  Something you could put in an envelope and brighten someone's day. Leave me a comment if you are interested.

All of our snow melted!  No shoveling required.  (I like winter, so this isn't such a great turn of events for me.)  If it rains today, we will have snow again. Last night it was in the teens - but it is above 30 now (at nearly noon). We are having a very unusual sunny day. (The unusual part is that it  is sunny.)  How is your "Fall" treating you?

Remember to comment if you want to swap.
Hugs,
Terri

Brown strips

Made some strip blocks for this weeks color - brown. To see what others are making this month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge go here.

Hope you all have recuperated  from Halloween. Almost everything is cleaned up here. Still have to put the mirror back into it's frame... I love using the frame for the HP moving picture costume.

Terri

Last Pink Saturday

I found some string blocks to work on, and added 4 pink ones this week (amongst other monochromatic themed squares) to the collection. (Go to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge to see what others are doing with pink.)

We had SNOW yesterday and quite a lot of it is sticking... see yesterdays post for pictures.

Have a great weekend.

Terri

Happy Easter and H2H Check In

I don't have any lilies for Easter, but I do have an orchid blooming.

Hope you are having a wonderful Easter. It's sunny and 55 here, but the wind is blowing, so we have a wind chill. Still, happy for a sunny day!

A late Christmas gift for Hubby - finished today

I've been  wanting to make something that was beige and brown... this was the easy one. The other one will have to have backing that is pieced. I cut the first one wrong - too big, and now I've got smaller pieces. Oh well. He likes it, and that's all that matters.
Have a great week.
Hugs,
Terri

Design Walls Monday

I'm missing my design wall... had to come down to sell the house. So I'm using a couple of panels of foam core board for the interim. Today I'm working on two quilts... who isn't.

Remember these? Two, count them - 2 gallon bags full of strips from my pal, Val. We swapped fabric a while back. I sent her some uncut I Spy fabrics and she sent me strips! So while we are packing I'm making....
some strip blocks. I got my hubby to cut me some 8.5" squares of paper - first I had to teach him how, but he does love to do homework for me on the quilts. Next I'm going to get him to cut off the excess fabric. (Tried this last night... Ouch! He cut off a corner. At least it was an easy fix. Some men are just not atuned to sewing. I was wise to prevent him from cutting out the Drunkard's Path pieces. They are cut on the line but not on the curves - and tracing they need seam allowances on the curves to be cut 1/4" away from the line... Oh well, we'll keep the homework simple for him so he feels like he's helping... afterall, his name goes on the quilt, so he should help.)
I'm just putting lights and darks next to each other. (Most blocks are going to be monochromatic.)

I have these done, so far. I'm thinking it will be called "You and Me" and if I can get it done in time I'll use it for a donation to H2H - Sarah Craig's Charity... see the side panel.
Below is a close up.

Oops - I've a basting thread showing....

+++++++++++++++

Now for the other quilt... the next Grandgirl Wedding quilt will be made of these Drunkard Path blocks but set in the Love Ring variation.

These are the most recent.

Haven't got enough made yet to finish one block of Love Ring ... but I love it already. Don't you?

Here are more settings of Drunkard's Path - one shows the Love Ring.

Out my window...
you might not see the lovely group of orange butterflies in my yard... centered above the Passionflower Vine on my fence. It grows from my neighbor's yard into mine. I think these butterflies rode in on those plants - they are very like a Julia butterfly, which only rows in Florida and Texas. I can't show you the picture in the book, it's packed - who knows where. We have maybe a dozen. I'm sure they helped us sell this place. My buyer is getting the best deal, buying my house... which after signing this morning, belongs to her now. (Sniff) We are renting for free until the truck comes on the 4th of November. (Crying)

I have to go now - take more pictures. I have to figure out how to have butterflies at my new house.

Have a lovely week.
Hugs,
Terri
