Finally a Finished Flimsy

I've been working on this baby quilt for a while now. I showed it last time. You commenters convinced me to rearrange the blocks. I did and I like this arrangement better. Thank you so much.

I like this better... it looks more organized.  Do you think it needs a border?  It's 35 X 42 now.

While I'm working on it, it seemed  like a group of Rorschach tests . What do you make of the  block below?

 

I think it represents flames on the planet Mars.  What do you think?

 

So it's only Tuesday... Hump day tomorrow. Doesn't mean a thing to me though. I'm retired.  Have a great rest of your week.

It's a Flimsy!

Just finished the flimsy this afternoon...

\It's 11 sqs  x  13, each square is 4"  Now for batting and backing.  I have some batting from my Sister and some backing from my  friend, Paulette.  A group effort.  It takes a village.

Flimsy for H2H Done

I've got the flimsy done, have 2 pieces of batting to put together, and the backing to make. Then I'll quilt "in the ditch" as closely as I can. Should be done this week.

Flimsy: (Being a bit evasive (secretive) and showing it from the back and only half - laying on the ironing board folded in half.)

 

Batting progress:
Using big hand stitches to just but the ends together. I don't want any bulk there.

Backing started: Center panel of the backing. It will have red sides added to make it fit the front.

Back to work!

Scrap Quilt or Quilts?

I tried to take a picture of the whole thing, but I can't do it by myself... It's only 54 X 90 but it's on 2 foam core panels and they are hard to move. Anyway I'm thinking it's an odd size so I'm going to cut it in half and border each for 2 - H2H quilts.  Here are some of the specialty pieces I found in my scrap bags and included. (BTW my  scrap bags are just as full as before - how does that happen?)

 

On the far right is a piece I love... don't know how I got it.

 Some leftover snowballs from grandkid birthday quilts made years ago. Green with light green is probably from Christopher's quilt, and the red with light purple (below) is probably from Rachael's.

 Above is the paper pieced bunny I made, and below a butterfly also paper pieced.

 Above is a potted plant (paper pieced from Quilt Maker Magazine, I think).  Love the little piece of love bird fabric.  Below is a star from a wall hanging I started for my daughter.

 

 Above:  The little tree (next to the balloon fabric) is also from the wall hanging. She decided she was hating pink at that time, so I set that project aside.  Below is a piece of Drunkard's Path.... There were so many old pieces in the 4 paper grocery bags.

See the bugs on the mid left?  I started a quilt for Project Linus years ago, and it just wasn't turning out right... lots of bulging in the center medallion. These pieces went into the scrap bag. I swear I could make 50 of these quilts. I made no lessening to the scrap bags at all, but I do have a flimsy done.... maybe 2.  Really enjoyed making this.

Got a question about ripping out stitches. What is your preferred method? I know we all hate it. I use several methods. Writing a blog about it ....

H2H Flimsy Finished and Ironed

Yay! I wish I had worked more steadily on this.... It looks so much better after it was ironed.

Here's a center look at the flimsy finish.   Some close-ups below.

I started with a busy and colorful focus fabric. I like using multiple white on white prints, too. Keeps me from getting bored.


And here's my Christmas cactus blooming waaay late or waaay early.

A New Start and a Flimsy

Oh yeah! On the same post a start on the Snowball and 9 Patch Sew Along. I've made Snowball quilts for 5 of the grandkids. I wanted to make one with white snowballs... go figure. This is about springtime snowballs. You in the Eastern U.S. of A. know about those.  Do they make you think of flowers and green grass?

here is the Good Night Irene sewn together but needs ironing before sandwiching. (It's the kind of witching I'm best at.) It all takes a while on that tiny ironing board. This one is for the Sweet 16 QAL and ultimately for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2015.

One Name on My List - Exciting News, and an H2H flimsy, I'm cheating

So last post I suggested a swap.... Valerie Reynolds commented that she'd like to participate.  Well, Val, I guess you and I will swap springy colors. I'll send you  3 - 10" squares, and  you do the same. We'll have a bit of stash exchange; something to take the edge off of winter, some happy snail mail. Thanks for joining in. I really appreciate it.

In other news, our company has moved on to Las Vegas, NV. We had a great time with them! (Bill's brother and his life partner)  Love you guys! We took them up to Lake Tahoe and had a bit of a snowball fight along the way. Snow at 6500 ft. - about 50 degrees.

 In the biggest news.... My Oldest Grandgirl is Engaged!  They haven't worked out a date yet, but they are thinking June - OMG!  How's a granny supposed to get a special quilt together that fast?  I made this sketch - I'm thinking low density colors except for the center. What do you think? It might be too incongruous for the center to be red and everything else low impact.  Any  ideas?  I want it to be special, but easy.  She's the first grand to marry.

Seems awfully early for my pear to be blooming... daffodils in the background haven't a single bud, strange.

Somehow, I've got this out of sequence... Talking again about the Grandgirl's wedding quilt: I have some UFO's, but those are earmarked for Hands to Help Charity Challenge... (See the button in the side bar.)  I finished this flimsy last night. It was already cut and partly assembled. (It had to come off of the design wall for the grandson's quilt... the one currently on the top of the blog.)  I inserted some paper pieced lady bugs  and a saw tooth piece or two. (The pink behind is a piece of thank you fabric from Val. I need to get that washed up. It isn't part of this quilt.)

So to summarize:  Help! and sending you some Springtime, Val.

Hubby's birthday tomorrow... off to Red Robin for his free burger.
