Finished the H2H for 2016

Just finished the binding.... pink.  Here's the quilt (held up by the Zombie Hubby Hands).

It's getting sent to Happy Chemo... in honor of my Daughter.  As long as I can quilt and Sarah runs her charity, I'll make one for this charity.

H2H being quilted

I'm having a devil of a time getting this one done. The thread keeps breaking. I've rethreaded, changed the needles twice, next I'm checking the bobbin for near emptiness, and last I'll change spools.
Here's the quilt on the machine.

I'm quilting a zig zag pattern in the rows that parallels the row before. I like the look, but all that pivoting might be the stress on the thread.

It's not a finish...

I know it's Friday, but I don't have a finish...
I've worked haphazardly on my Drunkard's Path...  we moved 600 miles during the QAL with Vicki Welch. Some of my blocks are missing... I haven't discovered them in their hiding place(s) yet. And there are some already cut and ready to pin and then sew... The scary thing is I've put the templates somewhere and can't find them either. (Good thing my Grandgirl is planning to wait to be married until after they have graduated college. The Love Ring setting of these blocks is to be her wedding quilt gift.) Sew I don't have a finish to link up to Vicky's end of the QAL, but I'll link what I have to show and hope for the best. Here's what I have to show...

Update: Hurray!!! I found the blocks that were missing and the templates... had to weed through a few boxes to find them.  So here they are:

I've got one motif set, and the outer (red and purple) blocks that will continue in the pattern, but be like a border at the end of setting a few motifs together.  So there will be at least 6 motifs - if that works out to be a good size. Ooops! I see a mistook. I've got 2 reds together. Easily fixed now since nothing here is sewn together beyond the 2 piece blocks.

In this picture you can see on the lower right more blocks... Just not enough design wall to accommodate them all. It's a small room and my design wall space keeps getting smaller and smaller as I empty boxes.
As I was emptying boxes I found my box of teas! I've got some variety now. Yay!  So I'm off to brew a cuppa. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas or other Holiday. New Years coming up soon. And on the subject of coming up...

Hope springs eternal... can you see the tulips(?) coming up by my front door? There are about 5 stubby starts. They were done blooming and gone before I saw the house last fall. I have no idea what color or even if they are tulips. Something to look forward to. (I know that's bad grammar, but I really don't want to be that formal.)

More Purple Blocks

Here are some of the purple blocks I made this week.
These first six are leftovers, except for the one on the top right... I found a place for that one.

The pink blue yellow and teal print has to go in the quilt - and her cousin's quilt as well - because of the top I made for each of them when they were about 2.  There are other memory pieces in the quilt.

 

 

On Saturday, go to the RSC14 (3rd button on the side panel) to see others' purple blocks for April.

Does this ever happen to you?

Too many projects at once....

I had to lay these out on the floor. (There was no place on the design wall.)

 

 They are leftovers from two other quilts I've made... Why did I make over 100 extra blocks?  These are made up of three squares in the middle and 2 rectangles on the outsides of those 3 squares. Really easy. They are mostly blue or green with orange centers, except the orange ones with blue or green centers. I had to sew a couple of rows together right away, so I could get around it.

 I really love it, so it's going to H2H this year. (Last year I used some of these blocks for a quilt for H2H as well.)

Jazzy Snowballs Finished!!!!!!!!!!!

So happy to finish this second H2H quilt for Happy Chemo. I hope it gives a recipient hope and lots of joy. Here's the final portrait.

Someone last week thought some of the blocks were white. They are not. The only white is in half of the triangles.

Showing backing (light blue with white polka dots) quilting is wavy lines (of orange quilting thread)  through the snowballs - absolutely avoiding the corners. I hand stitched the back of the binding...

I still haven't learned!

 

Sew that is that. The two for H2H are done and packed up to mail tomorrow. I know that's kind of late, but I just finished the hand sewing.

 

Tomorrow I'm shipping and I'm going to play hooky (and not feel guilty).

Flimsy done & Backing Chosen

Hands 2 Help flimsy sewn. It's going to the cancer charity... you know why.

Backing washed and ironed (and since has been sewn)... that may be the quilting thread for the bottom. Still thinking about the top thread. Black or White?

 

Edited: I used orange to quilt. The above fabric has a  metallic thread that runs through, and it's not soft. I decided to use a soft fabric for someone who has cancer. They sure don't need any more of life's little irritations. The backing is light blue with white polka dots, and it much softer.

 

Starting tonight with the basting.

The Latest...

A flimsy done (actually a UFO) for the H2H challenge:

 

 

 And below is the cheater quilt I made for the Project Linus Open House. The front looks like quilt squares, but is solid fabric, and the backing is a wild kitty print. I used my new walking foot and quilted it with wavy lines within an hour!!!!! (I love that thing.) The binding is all set to put on in time to do the hand work while watching TV tonight. (It's that roll of turquoise on the right.)

Working on Two Charity Challenges!

Hello Friends,
We are getting ready for Easter. Our son, daughter in law and newest grandson are coming over!!!!  We're going to have porcupine meatballs, baked potatoes and carrots (in honor of the bunny).  Maybe we'll partake on the patio...  rain is predicted... but you know how the weatherman is usually wrong.

Anyway, I have the flimsy done for the palms quilt I've been working on.  I'd show it off, but it needs ironing. I do have some pictures to share.

Sneak peek: one of my UFOs is going to be a quilt for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge (see the side bar for the beam over button - quilts donated all go to charity. (Join in by Sat. (tomorrow) to get in on the giveaway!) It is my favorite charity! They give quilts to a wide range of people... I like that.)  Here's a sampling of my UFO.

I've had it squirreled away for almost a decade. Time to make it into something!

And the Fandom in Stitches Project of Doom Charity I thought I was too busy to join in will be getting at least 2 blocks. It's a Harry Potter thing, so you know I couldn't stay away. See the button at the right if you'd like to make a few blocks. One winner gets the blocks or a quilt, (unsure about that part) and the rest of the blocks are going into Project Linus quilts. That's a worthy charity, too.

So far I've made one cauldron brewing Felix Felicis (the good luck potion). The other pattern will be Hedwig. She's going to be hard to make,  the background has to be white and she is white. Dilemma!

Baby Cork Oaks growing up & banner improvement & a monster to be

Hi Friends and Welcome!

Here are the babies...
The one without a cork oak still has no sprout, but now has roots coming out the bottom... If that one starts up, I'll have 100% germination. The first time that ever happened.
The little tree in the right cup is the one seen here on my blog on Feb. 11. Since then it has grown 5.5"... 12 days and 5.5"! I think by Halloween we will be glad to send them on their way.

A few more of the 6.  I also have a small forest of Osage Orange trees in the back room, but that will have to wait for another day.

More Palm blocks

They are mounting up! So far:

And really that is all...  two more orange to make it 6 of each and then I'm going to fill in with one of each until it gets quilt shaped.... I do like the two by two view. I thought of white and black around the outside, but I saw a quilt with w&b blocks around the outside and it really drains the color out of the center. We can't have that.

Commissioned Quilt done and shipped - along with a few gifts

My first commissioned quilt - done and shipped

 

Below is the label - I used Fray Check on the raw edges. It should keep it from fraying. I've had a shirt that has raw edged flowers on it, and wear it at least once a week, (so it gets laundered at least once a week for 5 years or so) and the flowers are still in tact!

Below is a close up of the quilting, and the prints. The fabrics - all from my stash - that she chose are sooooo pretty.

She wanted it for the livingroom - to cuddle up in... so I made.....

 a present with the leftover squares... I used some of the waterproof fabric - the orange color - and made 6 coasters, tied with some of the backing material.

 Here are the six. The orange on the back goes pretty well with all the colors. (You can see a bit on the green one, top left, and on the brown one below it.

This is my latest "genius" idea.  It's one of those elastic bands to hold your hair back. The way I made this one, you can adjust it. I thought the grand (teen) girls might like them. This is the prototype.  Below it is extended.

I didn't want to model it myself - and I surely didn't want the hobby to model it... (I think I could have talked him into it, but nobody wants to see a man wearing this.  So (shout out to Sarah -) it is clean and never been worn.

The depression seems to have passed again.... thanks to all you well wishers! I am a bit bummed though. My favorite rubber stamp store is going out of business. Linda has been in business in Placerville for 13 years!!! as  long as we have lived here.  She feels like a close friend. They will be moving to Oregon soon. I will miss her sooooo much.Today is supposed to be National "Make A Card" Day. I should make a Bon Voyage card for her.

Now I'm off to see what this Wicked thing is over at Cheryl's blog. Somehow I missed the directions or description....

You all be good while I"m gone, and if you can't manage that, at least have fun!

I finished!

And on time, too!

This one shows the backing and the binding are the same fabric. It was just the perfect piece for the color scheme on the front; pink background, white daisies with yellow centers, and a green leaf here and there. Kismet!

Okay, so I'm a bad housekeeper. The table next to the quilt is full of seeds to try. Want to wait until I get back from my daughter's house. Do you recognize the long beans from the Catalpa?

I did have another finish, but I have to wait. It's a gift to a follower who just happens to be my DIL, so we don't want to spoil her surprise, do we. 

I have a UFO up on the design wall now, but again... (see paragraph above.)  I only have 2  long seams that need alot of pinning before I can sew. Then the flimsy needs paper removed. I'll be able to finish that one soon, too.

OMG!

This is the first time I'm blogging since Blogger changed... I'd have bet the input screen couldn't get any smaller than the old one... Wrong! 

Anyway, I finished my H2H and the quilt for the Project Linus Open House.  Here are the pictures...

H2H - button on the side panel - 2 charities, mine will go to the cancer one.

Project Linus donation for the Open House - make a quilt with your favorite color and any of it's tints or shades. Voila!

I really hate making things with a deadline, but I'm glad I made them, and they are gone on their way tomorrow.  And so am I. The Hobby and I are off to AK (that's Alaska) tomorrow. Our granddaughter, Alyssa, will be the first of the grands to graduate!  So we will be there with bells on! We are so proud. And we  are visiting our son and family for a week. Our first time to AK.  I can't wait.

So you are on your own for a week. (But I know you will be alright - after all, you were alright last week without me.)  I hope we will have some wonderful pictures to share with you then.

Chrissy is getting better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

=^..^= is what I learned today. I don't remember where I saw it, but it was on one of the blogs I follow, and I just had to try it myself.  Aren't you proud that you stopped here.

My Chrissy is getting better and better. She can walk the stairs to take a shower, but on the way down (after the trip up, and a shower) she needs a nap... Understandable after what she's been through. She has now added a few easy (hopefully) chores, and can do some things around the house. I am always amazed by that woman.

I've only sewn a few rows on my pink and red. Needs to be done sometime in April for the Project Linus Open house.

Notice I have 3 quilts now -overlapped - on my design wall. Can you see them all?

A better view of the laziness.

Here's the bunnies I made to be puppets for my kids and grandkid cards... I just ran out of interest in them. I threw them all into a project box... I hope they aren't doing any math...

The grey ones were to be "grey hares" given  to the kids who gave me so many of them...

and the white ones were for the grandkids... but they are all too old for finger puppets now, and pretty much only interested in computer games and boys.... What's a granny to do?

 I just don't like how the bunnies turned out, so I'm not giving them out.

We have had a turn in fortunes, and the car needs fixing... $400 to the radiator. (Never talk about money in front of your car... We got our tax return, and the car must have known.) It'll be more troubles after that. We've had it a long time, and it is a 2004 model. We've just been lucky to this point that nothing major has come up until now.  For the weekend we are prisoners in our house.  We'll probably walk up to the Taco Bell for a special treat for our Easter Dinner. Can't get the car into the shop until Monday morning. C'est la Vie!
