Linking Up to Save $$

It's that time again to link up to Val's Piggy Bank Challenge.  Use this link, or see her "button" on the right side. You have until August 1 to link up.

I saved  $166.25 this last year, and I left some seed money in the savings can (pictured below).

I haven't purchased anything yet. I really don't need any fabric... (Moving twice within the last two years has me talking crazy like this.)  I really don't know what I'll buy with the special money. I was going to buy a nice dress for my class reunion and to wear to church, but looks like we won't be wearing dresses as it is "summer casual".  I did get a dress already from Zulily that I didn't like when it arrived - and they have a NO return policy, so I do have a church dress.  What are you all buying? I probably already have everything a quilty girl could want. Maybe some new rotary blades and a replacement 5" wide cutting ruler. (I've worn off some of the lines on mine... have it for decades already.)

I am going to save the change though. It's a nice side plot in my life.

Happy Coin Collecting!

Terri

Orchid blooming and Piggy Bank Contents

This orchid bloomed last year in WA state.... and now in WI it is blooming again!  Yay.

And here is the "take" from my Piggy Bank Challenge. $166.25 (and a few dollars left in the can again as seed money for next year.)!  There was also 2 hair pins and a fake dollar that only works at the local laundramat.  Thank you Val for the incentive to save the extra loot. I don't know what I'll buy with it, maybe groceries!!!!  No, that wouldn't be fun. Guess I've gotta go to the fabric store...

Last of the Sisters Oregon Quilt Show Pictures

Here we are again in Sisters Oregon. I've got a few more photos to show.

This is why my hubby likes to go with me. He loves to pet all the doggies.

This one is sort of plain piecing, but the quilting is all different colors and all flowers on stems.

This shows you what kind of town Sisters is... This fountain is for people and their pets. Also the landscaping on the boulevards is great. Lots of the spots have flowers.

You knew I had to have a picture of this one. (and the next picture are the same quilt)

This was hanging next to the butterflies. Cute

Here's a view from the drive home.

Here's the bag from the Stitchin' Post. And below, the three yards I bought.

The pink is for stash... gotta feed it. Blue bubbles may be used on a certain great grandkid quilt. The purple is for the Drunkard's Path (Love Ring setting) that I'm working on. Love the organic feel of these three. (Purchased with saved money from Val's Piggy Bank Challenge. Some is going back in for seed money.

So that does me for a couple of weeks. I'm moving almost 2,000 miles and we are loading one truck tomorrow already. The van comes  the next day for the heavy stuff we can't handle.
So be good while I'm gone.... No wild parties - save that for when I can join in. LOL

Joining the Piggy Bank Savings Challenge again.

Just a big can from peanuts from Costco, and some strips of orange that were hanging around last year, and voila! you have a piggy bank for THE Challenge over at Val's blog. Try it, you'll like it. I didn't save all that much last year, as you know.  But it did get me three lovely yards of batik at the Sisters Quilt Show this past Saturday.  Every little bit helps.

Stop by here tomorrow when I'll continue to show the show and the fabric.

Cluttered Chaos of Cuilting....spelled with poetic license

Okay, Val  set down the challenge and linky. . show your quilting space. OMG!  Have I got a challenge for you.

My CA studio was 12 X 15 -  this one in WA is 9 X 9.5, with a turn at the doorway that wouldn't allow one of my sturdier tables. The movers couldn't get it in.

From the hallway - paper bag storage, and a plant table that will be removed to the living room later today.
Inside to the left - see the silver closet door "knob"? There is a closet that is not well used.  Fabric is stored by color in boxes (from the move). Project boxes for the butterflies and other  projects (from Costco - good and cheap). Plants on the top shelf to get maximum light from the one West facing window.
3 movable foam core design walls...only 2 can be visible at any one time. (The red and purple Love Ring is on the other one.) Top of my armless rolly chair in the foreground is in front of the sewing machine. The portable ironing board is on top of the cutting board that over runs the folding table that also supports the lid of the sewing machine cabinet.

On the machine are the 4 rows of Good Night Irene that I'm making for the  Sweet 16 QAL where I will link this up later today. I like my sewing machine on an inside wall. Fluctuations in temperature can ruin a piano, so I don't want to take chances with my sewing machine either.

The bulletin board not yet hung because it keeps the wall heater from blowing on my sewing machine cabinet. Lots of things hanging there. Patterns and a few sentimental things, like the butterfly batik piece that my daughter made in 5th grade, and the black velvet "pincushion" with a paper heart taped onto it that she made for me. The white plastic bag is for snippets. I use them to fill floor pillows for the grandkids.
Another picture showing the top of the shelves - near the top left is Rachy's "Hersey". She made it and used it at my house once. I can still see her joy, galloping around our much bigger house. It's an oatmeal container and the plastic putter toy we had for them to play with. (It's the expensive toys they like best.) Plants are my orchids. Orange container at the end of the shelves is my Piggy Bank Challenge (see Val's blog).

From the design wall there is the closet... not far away.

And the plants on the top left side of the shelving... featuring my newly transplanted Southern Magnolia Tree that I started from a seed. Three years old and getting bark now!
And in the kitchen East facing window, another plant brag picture. Here is the root that broke off my Rabbit Foots Fern during our move, and I put it into water hoping it would root. . . I can't tell you how many times I was ready to throw it out. Nothing was happening, and I just was quite depressed about it. Well, here it is! It got a root, and a week or two later I planted it into this very elegant cottage cheese container. Now if you're interested - look closely and near the top bend you will see a new frond striking out of the furry root. I am such a proud plant Mamma.

Sew, feel really good about your sewing rooms, studios or areas now that you've seen mine. I know it's a mess, but I've got sewing to do when I'm in there. I don't want to use it up organizing. No suggestions for your space, Val, but I will link up on your blog today. Maybe someone will get a good laugh out of my space.

Have a beautiful week.
Hugs,
Terri

It's not very pretty...

Here's my vessel for the Piggy Bank Challenge at Val's Quilting Studio.

Some of my favorite orange fabrics surrounding a nut tin Costco size. (Being I am trying to sell my house, and all my prettier things are packed since last October, I'm lucky to find anything for this challenge. I felt it would be goofy to buy some bank to do the job, when we're trying to save money. So this is it.

I cut a large sized hole so I can fit bills - although I hope not to use them. I will have to hide or take the bank with me when our house is being shown. In this area visitors like to take things - even little things as souvenirs. I've hidden my little owl that usually sits on my sewing machine. Wouldn't want to lose him.
Even though right now it isn't Wednesday I want to wish you all a Happy Hump Day, especially if you have to work tomorrow.
Happy Birthday to my Rachael. Love you, Honey!

Hugs,
Terri
