Stories to go with the H2H quilts shown on an earlier post

Sometimes I have a time trying to tell one quilt from the close-ups of it shown on other blogs... So on this blog I am sharing the stories of the quilts that I'm giving to the Hands to Help Comfort quilts challenge. I'll show the quilts again and the sordid truths about them. LOL

This one started out as a Squirrel Quilt...

You know how squirrel quilts can be... so exciting to start, so tedious to finish. I liked the color scheme from an ad in a magazine, and I love the white and muslin background pieces on other quilts I have seen, but just not the way I did it.

This red and muslin quilt is Cherry Pie - my third quilt, and it's been in the UFO pile since the 90s.  It's huge, and I just don't feel like finishing it. There are a few blocks cut that I will send with to Victoria's in Canada... in case she needs to add to the part she cuts off of this one.

The next two may need to be sewn together to be big enough, but that should be easy. These are "made" fabric pieces I made a couple of summers ago. There are orphan blocks and paper pieced blocks included in each. Close up photos show those blocks.

And here is the baby quilt for Jack's Basket.  Some of my favorite multicolored fabrics with two sided "frames".  It's an easy quilt to make, and I made it for a friend to give to a grandchild.  I asked and asked for an address, but none was offered.  I have two other quilts for the other grandkids that aren't as yet finished. They will be donated somewhere when they are finished, too.

Don't you just love the spacey blue on the left and the rainbow "flames" next to it?  In honor of my nephew, Brandon, this one goes to Jack's Basket.

Stories and close-up photos as promised. Shipping these tomorrow.
Hugs,
Terri

UFOs For H2H donations

Hi and here it is.  The first four flimsies are for Victoria's Quilts Canada, and one for Jack's Baskets. To make it easier for Sarah, I'll make another post with the stories.  Hugs, Terri

It's (Green) Saturday!

It's Saturday again? So soon? Does the week get away from you, too? That time thing is really something difficult for me. It's always later than I think. I guess that means I'm having fun. But these past two weeks have been anything but fun. (I'm having troubles with my Sciatica - you know the kind. Been to the Doctor and the X-ray unit... taking meds for pain. Just not like me.)

Then there is the indecision. I have again changed my mind about the Grandgirl wedding quilt. I've just not liked the previous two.

#1 seemed too dark...

#2 seemed too disjointed
I just couldn't seem to get a rhythm in my head.

#3 is pleasing me! I've enjoyed making the blocks so far, and so long as I keep having good results from my meds, I'll be able to cut and sew on it. It's a Disappearing 4 Patch, quite easy, but a lot of cutting... which is usually bad for my back. I think it'll be worth it in the end. It seems a joyful quilt, to me anyway. So my heart is in it. (Can you see it there?)

Some close-ups of my favorite blocks - above has some greens in it. (One of my favorite fabric pieces.)  There are other green blocks cut.

Love this floral. Sorry to the Grandson-in-law to be, but your quilt will have flowers.

Sew I'm back on track, I think, and starting over... making UFOs all over the place... singing, We Will, We Will Rock You! (Did I tell you I'm on meds?)

Hugs,
Terri

OMG! I'm a winner 2 times this week!

You are not going to believe my luck!

Last week Angie from Quilting Readers Garden emailed that I had won a prize!!!! Here's what arrived in the snail mail.

Cute patterns for an applique quilted calendar.

Cardinal patterns, and two kinds of thread.

and 3 fat quarters!

I was quite surprised and excited to win... who wouldn't be, right?  She runs a linky for hexies on Fridays. Stop by and check it out.

I learned about the second winnings on Sunday from Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict's Hands 2 Help winners announcement. There were 65 participants - and we all won!!!!   I'm getting an In From The Cold charm pack designed by Kate Spain! If you'd like to see what others won, check out the link above. Sarah will be running this challenge again next year, so start sewing now!!!!!!!!! She picks two charities and you can donate to either or both. She also has informative posts (tutorials) and guest writers and linky parties to share your work or works. It's a great way to use up stash for good causes.

I've gotten out a UFO I started before the newest grandguy was born, and figured I'd give him the I Spy for his first birthday (coming up in Aug.).  Remember this?

I'm quilting around the small squares - the pictures - so it's taking forever to shove the quilt through the hole of the machine 4 times for each square. I hope I remember this next time I quilt. I just don't seem to learn my lessons well.

and a close-up.

And in the evenings I'm hand sewing hexie flowers for a dolly quilt for Get Your Mrs. Claus On. (See the button on the sidebar.)  I have to do something in the evenings or I fall asleep!

I also want to share a picture - well, 2 really - of my Mimosa Tree blooming now. It is not only beautiful, but smells like heaven - sweet, but not choakingly, and the cutest pink puffball blossoms.

This is only the bottom half!

And now back to the quilting!

Terri

Working on Two Charity Challenges!

Hello Friends,
We are getting ready for Easter. Our son, daughter in law and newest grandson are coming over!!!!  We're going to have porcupine meatballs, baked potatoes and carrots (in honor of the bunny).  Maybe we'll partake on the patio...  rain is predicted... but you know how the weatherman is usually wrong.

Anyway, I have the flimsy done for the palms quilt I've been working on.  I'd show it off, but it needs ironing. I do have some pictures to share.

Sneak peek: one of my UFOs is going to be a quilt for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge (see the side bar for the beam over button - quilts donated all go to charity. (Join in by Sat. (tomorrow) to get in on the giveaway!) It is my favorite charity! They give quilts to a wide range of people... I like that.)  Here's a sampling of my UFO.

I've had it squirreled away for almost a decade. Time to make it into something!

And the Fandom in Stitches Project of Doom Charity I thought I was too busy to join in will be getting at least 2 blocks. It's a Harry Potter thing, so you know I couldn't stay away. See the button at the right if you'd like to make a few blocks. One winner gets the blocks or a quilt, (unsure about that part) and the rest of the blocks are going into Project Linus quilts. That's a worthy charity, too.

So far I've made one cauldron brewing Felix Felicis (the good luck potion). The other pattern will be Hedwig. She's going to be hard to make,  the background has to be white and she is white. Dilemma!

Sew that is all for me today. Wishing you all a Happy Easter, or a wonderful spring break, or both!

Edit:  Linking up at So Scrappy to show off some orange. Also, Confessions of a Fabric Addict and A Creative Princess where I'm # 148, I think. Check them out, there's lots of creative things to see.

Hugs
