Pink Geese

You know how I like to paper piece.  I've been missing it, soooooo

I already have 5 strips of turquois geese, so I made pink ones ...

I've got 2 more strips to make in pink.  I need to make a quilt for my nephew's wedding now . He's getting married July 15 so I'd better get to it.  Wish me luck.

Blue Butterflies and Black Geese

I have been piecing,  honest!  These are for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday next.  This month's color is light blue.

These black geese were for the RSC also, but I didn't get to taking any pictures. The color triangles are from the same piece of fabric, the others are each from a different black scrap.

 

Next up, four different snowflakes with light blue skies.... paper pieced, of course.

Brown: Just NOT My Cuppa

I spent 2 days (maybe 8 hours total on this orange butterfly 9.5" square) and it was a much happier experience than the brown leaf.  I spent 1 hour on the leaf. I like the pattern (3" square). I've made it many times.

I'm trying to catch up to 5 strips of geese in the neutral color way.  I guess that's why I'm making (screaming) orange butterflies.

 

We are having fall here - thus the leaf. I'm going to do some more of those in prettier colors. It got down into the 30s last night, so it might become winter soon.

Orange and Pink Geese

OK last month was the orange month... I finished my 5 strips of geese just now.

And this month is pink... I did these a while ago.

So I'm caught up with those. I have a couple of neutrals made. Guess I should make the other 3 and maybe 5 greys.

Last Sunday we went to a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives destination in Delta Wisconsin... (Not the one in town here in Superior.)  We thought we would see some of the leaf colors changed, and we did, but not much.

Anyway it was a diner... not as homey as the one in Vancouver Washington that we enjoyed so much.

 

Here's a picture of it being modeled by my hobby, the substitute teacher.

This Week's Blocks

One blue butterfly and a strip of neutral geese...  The geese will be shown on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge linky party tomorrow. The new color is orange for September, and I just happen to have a strip of orange geese done, too.
I'll also show the blue butterfly at Fret Not Yourself .  They are sharing an easy butterfly pattern at that link.  Looks like it would be fun and wonky.

And here it is... 4 more to do this month.

The body of the butterfly is a fabric that changes colors from blue to red - seemed appropriate to me.

And I started a swan.  Plan on making 2 of them.  So far I only have the #1s and a few #2s ready to sew.

 

It's supposed to rain here again tomorrow, but nothing like Texas.

One Strip of Neutral Geese

I don't have much in the way of brown, tan, beige - neutral scraps, but I did find one set that could work for my geese. 

 

Now off to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Finished my Five Blue Flying Geese

I haven't made any of these in neutrals yet, but I still have time.

Now for some pictures of my plants. Currently some orchids blooming.  (Or kids)

 This African Violet blooms almost all the time. Watered from the bottom, and in a bright window - as bright as it gets here. (Rarely sunny - the eclipse was just a little darker on a dark, overcast day.)

Some of the little plants started for Halloween... not going to do that plant give away anymore. Here it is too hard to start the plants, and no sunny window spaces in this house. Here is a Christmas cactus on the left middle, a Hoya started from a leaf in a glass of water, and a Mother-in-law's Tongue with two little sprouts. That one I thought was not going to make it, the cutting fell mostly out of the dirt, but it was hanging on by one root, so I left it.

Some More Blue

Worked on the blue Flying Geese that I couldn't make while the machine was having surgery.

 

 Last week we went to visit these lovely people... Cece and her hubby Zig. She is my hubby's cousin.

This is their teenaged swan. 

We went fishing and rode ATVs - I taste tested some home made whiskey!!! We had lots of fun.

So next up is to finish the geese, and I'll want to make some low volume neutral ones as well... but I did find a Vulcan Alphabet pattern source at Fandom In Stitches. The patterns are paper piecing, but you knew that.  Give it a look see.

Dreary Day...

Rainy, 52 degrees F, and overcast right up to the Pearly Gates... I am so bummed on these days, so I thought I'd share the stuff I've been working on.  (This is my 555th post!)

Two Geese Strips and 2 Butterflies

Quick post so I can get on my way to the Quilt Show today. I'll share pictures of my favorites on Monday.

The two on the right are the yellow geese I made this week and the two butterflies. The little one is a pattern I've used for years, but the bigger one is not paper pieced. Sewing machine is acting funny, so the big butterfly doesn't lie flat.

Missing a Color

Finished my fourth Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for this year... I have purple, aqua, red and green. Still missing one. Just remembered the Multicolored month... I only made one strip of geese that month.  Here are the greens I finished this week.

More Green Geese

We saw a bunch of baby geese today.  These are not them.

 

Bet you wonder how I get them to hang out sideways from the pins.... they are flying! Magic!

Ahhhhhhhh......,.

H2H quilt for Camp Hobe done and off in the mail this afternoon. I feel such relief! I'm such a procrastinator. I did have trouble with the sewing machine on the quilting and binding. (Exasperating.) The thread kept breaking and the stitch length was way off. I have a shaky hand and with my eyes, makes it really hard to rethread so often. One time I got to sew for less than 2 inches! I didn't really like the fabrics I chose at first, but after I put in a few plainer color on color prints, it looked better to me.
I'll show it off on Sunday at Confessions of a Fabric Addict .
So now I'm rewarding myself with some RSC green and making another strip of geese.

 

I picked out a dark to light grade this time.

Have a great spring day... we are currently continuing the enlargement of Lake Superior.

Not much going on

Since I posted last I've worked on the H2H quilt and I did make a set of green geese... before the announced new color!  Here it is.

I wasn't so proud of it... one of the geese is not ironed right, I didn't notice until I was done. Oh well. I can always make more. Tried to make a yellow one, too, but it's really hard to grade the shades of such a light color.

For those interested, my eyes are getting better. The degree of double sight is diminishing, I can concentrate and get a single image with both eyes open - if it's a simple object I'm looking at.   Things are looking up!

My First Set of Multicolored Geese

It's that time of day when I can't tell if this is a fuzzy picture, or is it my eyes.  I'll take another picture for Saturday the 8th.

 

I used 2 fabrics here that have the same group of colors. I like it, but it wasn't easy to get out of my stash. Multi is going to be a real challenge, at least for geese.

March: The Red Month

As you know I jumped the gun and sewed ahead.  The five red geese are finished for March, and I made one red butterfly and a red leaf, too.

Next pictures are of the star blocks for the H2H charity quilt made with the "found" bundle of 5" squares that I made years ago for another Jazzy Snowball Quilt like the one I donated in 2013 (seen below).

The last two aren't pressed yet.  I've got another 2 in the works, and that will be the main focus of sewing here until that quilt is done.

Working Ahead

I didn't know what to do with myself... so I'm working ahead of the RSC. I know one of the colors will be red...

I only want 5, and this week I did 4+.  Wonder what the new color will be.  I'll show these again when RSC catches up with me. I also did a red butterfly and leaf.

Not real happy with this one... Is it the brown stem or the same prints on either side? I made this pattern years ago and just found the pattern again.  Loved the older ones that I made into cuff bracelets for my grandgirls. Here are some pictures of the bracelets.

Turquoise Works

I hate to admit it, but this is all I got done this third week of February... no excuses.

Next week I'm going to work on the arch in teal, like I did in purple.  Then I'll have 5 goosey strips per month, any number of butterflies and an arch in each RSC color - I'm thinking table runner for the arches.  We will see.

Now I'm off to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge to see what others accomplished this week.
