Monday Design Wall Stacks

I am making some progress on my offering for H2H. I started earlier again this year because I am so slow at this hobby.  Everything takes me longer than it used to... sign of getting older.

Here is a picture of my cutting board as of last night. I'm using it as a staging area for making the strips.

I assemble these pieces using pins then go sew them together. I'm trying not to have too many the same in the same area.

I'm hoping it'll look better after they are sewn together. 13 rows up on the wall. Using these 'moveable' design wall pieces, I'm going to have to sew together before I have the 40 rows done. This might be a good sew together spot.

Thanks for all the great grand son comments. I'll share more pictures as they come to me. (He did roll over at 2 weeks old, so I suppose he'll be running next week.) I am right proud to be his great granny. I guess you can tell.

Hugs,
Terri

Design Wall Monday, and Angels

The July color is red over at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and last month's blocks for the Itty Bitty Row Along were these little hearts, so that is what is on my design ironing board. Later on in this post you can see the real work horse ironing board I invented to iron the flimsy and it's backing before sending off to the quilter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lately I've been seeing Angels in the clouds... Here is the one I saw 2 days ago

And here is the ironing facility I invented... a cotton blanket covered by a cotton sheet on top of my dining room table.  You can move the whole thing in order to get to the unironed spots. (I ironed from the bottom of the flimsy so I'd get the seam allowances to go where I wanted them.)

Today I've gotta find a box and then ship it.

Now I see how Bargello works - I might make another MUCH SMALLER quilt like it.

Hope you all are enjoying some beautiful weather. It's been unbearably hot here, but the heat only lasts for a few looooooooong hours in the afternoon. We can manage this. Our next home is in cool country and we are looking forward to that.

Hugs,

A New Start and a Flimsy

Oh yeah! On the same post a start on the Snowball and 9 Patch Sew Along. I've made Snowball quilts for 5 of the grandkids. I wanted to make one with white snowballs... go figure. This is about springtime snowballs. You in the Eastern U.S. of A. know about those.  Do they make you think of flowers and green grass?

------------  AND  ------------

here is the Good Night Irene sewn together but needs ironing before sandwiching. (It's the kind of witching I'm best at.) It all takes a while on that tiny ironing board. This one is for the Sweet 16 QAL and ultimately for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2015.

Linking up with the Sweet 16 QAL and the Snowballs and 9 Patches Sew Along - see the buttons on the side bar. Probably going to use the start on Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times tomorrow.

Have a lovely sewing week.

Terri

Almost a Flimsy

I've got a few more blocks in the works. I want one more column. You know how quilts shrink once you sew the blocks together... all that pesky seam allowance.  Here is how the design wall looks now.

Showing this at Sweet 16 headquarters today and tomorrow on Design Wall Monday, go to Patchwork Times by Judy L. I thought she had a button, but NO.

Have a lovely, quilty week.
Hugs,
Terri

Design Wall Sweet 16

I have a few of the blocks up on the portable design wall.

I have more blocks. Just haven't had the time.... Had to watch Downton Abbey and Alaska, the Last Frontier last night. I might have to make more blocks... we'll see.
Back to the arranging.

Terri

Design Wall Monday

Not really the design wall, that still has the same Drunkard's Path blocks on it as last week.
This is just 2 blocks for RSC - so far...

I'm sharing these at Judy Laquidaria's Design Wall Monday. Stop over and see what the others are showing. You can also see these blocks on Live a Colorful Life.

And just in case you think I am making a quilt in "6 easy steps"....
I like to work tiny.

Have a wonderful week.

Terri

Design Walls Monday

I'm missing my design wall... had to come down to sell the house. So I'm using a couple of panels of foam core board for the interim. Today I'm working on two quilts... who isn't.

Remember these? Two, count them - 2 gallon bags full of strips from my pal, Val. We swapped fabric a while back. I sent her some uncut I Spy fabrics and she sent me strips! So while we are packing I'm making....
some strip blocks. I got my hubby to cut me some 8.5" squares of paper - first I had to teach him how, but he does love to do homework for me on the quilts. Next I'm going to get him to cut off the excess fabric. (Tried this last night... Ouch! He cut off a corner. At least it was an easy fix. Some men are just not atuned to sewing. I was wise to prevent him from cutting out the Drunkard's Path pieces. They are cut on the line but not on the curves - and tracing they need seam allowances on the curves to be cut 1/4" away from the line... Oh well, we'll keep the homework simple for him so he feels like he's helping... afterall, his name goes on the quilt, so he should help.)
I'm just putting lights and darks next to each other. (Most blocks are going to be monochromatic.)

I have these done, so far. I'm thinking it will be called "You and Me" and if I can get it done in time I'll use it for a donation to H2H - Sarah Craig's Charity... see the side panel.
Below is a close up.

Oops - I've a basting thread showing....

+++++++++++++++

Now for the other quilt... the next Grandgirl Wedding quilt will be made of these Drunkard Path blocks but set in the Love Ring variation.

These are the most recent.

Haven't got enough made yet to finish one block of Love Ring ... but I love it already. Don't you?

Here are more settings of Drunkard's Path - one shows the Love Ring.

Out my window...
you might not see the lovely group of orange butterflies in my yard... centered above the Passionflower Vine on my fence. It grows from my neighbor's yard into mine. I think these butterflies rode in on those plants - they are very like a Julia butterfly, which only rows in Florida and Texas. I can't show you the picture in the book, it's packed - who knows where. We have maybe a dozen. I'm sure they helped us sell this place. My buyer is getting the best deal, buying my house... which after signing this morning, belongs to her now. (Sniff) We are renting for free until the truck comes on the 4th of November. (Crying)

I have to go now - take more pictures. I have to figure out how to have butterflies at my new house.

Have a lovely week.
Hugs,
Terri

a mess of little plants for Trick or Treaters, DP blocks and fall colors

Our house did sell, and we have a very short time to get out, but Halloween is really fun at this house, so we negotiated staying until November 6 so we could have our special holiday. The new owner will come over to participate and see how it goes with an eye to maybe continuing the plant giving tradition. Can you believe it? We have so much in common - they came by a second time to see the place on Sunday. She's like a friend already and we've only met twice. She wanted to stay for the two weeks. Well, sure, if you want to work.

So here are the little plants for this year.

Above are butterfly bushes - lavender from my bush, and dark purple from our neighbor's. (With permission - of course.) (That's a box top inside a garbage bag so we can water without ruining the box and can carry the plants around.)

These above are lavender and an indoor plant I've never known the name. It's segments. I call it the Mimbilious Mimbilitonia, after Neville's plant.

Here's a wide assortment of my house plants and things from around the yard. There are Pigs' Ears, Wandering Jews, Creeping Charlies, Christmas Cacti, a couple of geraniums, spider plants, Lipstick vines and Morning Glory that bloom in a dark blue color.

And under the table are more little plants. I see some button ferns (I think) and Vinca Minor a ground cover ivy with shiny dark green leaves and blue flowers. The Osage Oranges that didn't go last year are being offered again. It's an easy to germinate plant that has an ugly fruit resembling an orange, but is not a citrus fruit. It's got a latex substance in it, so not to be eaten!

&&&&&&&&&&&

Now for a little Fall Color - My (for a little while longer) Sweet Gums are gorgeous, and very faded in these pictures.

These leaves have been this color for a month and have not fallen yet. Others on this tree have, but these are here to delight me.

From my kitchen window over the sink.

At another angle - same window.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Now some quilting...
On the Design "Wall" (arm of the couch) the newest two Drunkard's Path blocks. I spent the sewing time cutting whites, so very little sewing done this weekend.

Sew have a lovely week of sewing - I'll be packing to move, and cleaning bathrooms, etc. You know how it goes.

More 'Matoes

Strictly speaking it's not a design wall, more of a cork bulletin board...

I made more tomatoes....

Did I show you the best summer purse of all time? Love this one. It goes with anything.

Felt like a little retail therapy today. Here's what I bought - 1/2 yard pieces for my stash. (Stash eats well.)

So go and sew, and have a wonderful week.

Veggies!

Design Wall Monday... a bit of paper piecing while away from home a few weeks ago, I did some to keep me busy on the down times. By hand!!!!!!!!!! Yes you can!

These have a purpose, just not for a quilt.... It's a secret until I give them away... still lots of work to do on them.  I may have messed up the coloring at the top, but that's "individuals may vary" kind of stuff. The patterns for tomatoes are from American Quilter Sept. 09

The carrot was machined - all oranges are a different fabric, and still I didn't use all my orange pieces! Have I got a stash or what?  I do have to change the design for the top. Those seams all come to one point, and make a bunch. (You know I hate a bunch.) The free pattern for Crazy Carrot is from Deb Karasik. Here's her link. if you want to make one.

Linking to Design Wall Monday - see the side panel for a direct route. (Use Patchwork Times by Judy L.)  Also linked to Angela's Rainbow Scrap Challenge - also on the side panel.

Design Wall Monday

I have a new Design Wall.
You remember that I'm trying to sell my house, and the design wall my hubby made was foam core nailed - with huge nails - to the wall. Well, that come down this week and the holes were patched and the whole thing painted... by my hubby, seen here hamming it up.

He did a wonderful job, you can't see the nail holes even when you know where they were!
I'd buy this house!

But, please don't think I have no place to design... (Oops! double negative...)

Foam core leaning with some Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks from several years back.
I've shown them before...
Some patterns for the next paper piecing project. I'm making potholders for some of my peeps.

Above is a new "I love you" hand in the works.

Oh, and this occurred this week. A hole. I picked the flowers for a backing on a H2H quilt, and had to add some extra fabric... did not notice that there was a big dip cut out of the middle edge of the flower fabric. Noticed that while sewing together. What to do?

See the hole is quite big.

To the rescue.... a little paper pieced apple core, fray checked and zig zag stitch and now it's a whole.

All for the backing to this....
This is the quilt with the apple core on the back. I pin basted on my dining room table. It was easier on my back than putting it up on the design wall (now nonexistent) and stitching the basting. Since then I've done some straight line stitch in the ditch, but I don't like it... Gotta do the yellow with yellow, and redo the blue, too. So there is some ripping out in my future. You know I'm putting that off.
Sew that's what I'm up to... How about you? What project occupies your mind this week? Our neighborhood has a parade of school kids on the 4th...
Oh, and Shay (in Australia) of  Quilting in my Pyjamas and I are having a giveaway and showing off our ineptness at FMQ on posts from Thursday through the Fourth... You will want to come back and see that.
Sew Hugs to you all - especially if you got this far down in the reading.

Monday - Storage Wall

I really have no right to call my design wall a "design" wall. Right now it is just for storage of the blocks I'm making for #1 Grandgirl's wedding quilt. Here's what I'm storing so far.

This close up was to show how dark that purple one really is... the photo is lots brighter than what I see in the sewing room. I need to keep that in mind.

There was also a tragic loss. One of my favorite blocks got an extra cut last night. (Sniff) I hope I have some of that same fabric left (and can find it again). I made the 1" cut from the middle instead of the 3-1/8" cut for the clean up.... It might become a pot holder!

So off to check in at Design Wall Monday... come on by and see what others were doing this weekend.

Thanks for stopping by!  If you have an opinion on that dark block (or any other), please leave a comment. I'm thinking it's the "one of these things is not like the others.  One of these things does not belong." Do you remember that from Sesame Street?  My kids grew up on there.

Hugs,
Terri

Design Wall Monday

Finally something new on my design wall... more blocks for the Grandgirl wedding quilt.

I'm quite organized this time...  Notice the box top "trays" from Costco?

More blocks not yet placed. (I think I made too many blue ones...)

More blocks cut, paired and ready to sew...

Next block to make.

I'm so happy to announce (what half of you already know) that I won the sign up giveaway for Hands 2 Help Quilt Challenge at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, and I just now ordered my fabric, from the sponsor, Fabric N Quilts. I'll show it off when it arrives. I'm so excited!

I also won a free paper piecing pattern from Janeen of Quilt Art Designs. She had a giveaway for her birthday. Isn't that a great way to celebrate? {I remember second grade when my Mom brought ice cream bars to school for the whole class room (first and second graders) on my birthday. It was a big surprise to me.} Anyway, I chose the lamb pattern, and I think I'll go back and buy the cute little sheep dog - (black and white) - he is that cute. Check out her Craftsy store to see what I'm talking about.

So since I won twice last week, I picked the numbers for the lottery tickets my hubby bought... I guess the third time isn't always the charm... no dice, we didn't win. Awww! but I am extremely happy about the other two wins, and when the fabric comes, you will be the first to see it.

Have a happy week,
Hugs,
Terri
