I took alot of pictures....

Taken a couple of days ago... I'm so excited. I love Halloween!

 

One of my genius ideas... In preface, let me tell you how hot and dry our summer is, and even though the temperatures are milder now, (in the 80s) we are still bone dry. (Don't worry. It is normal for here.) So this mist not only waters my roses - or where ever I put it - it attracts butterflies, birds, including the little hummer, and the bees love it, too.  Know what it is?

It's just my hose with the sprayer attached and hooked to my rain gutter. It sprays a fine mist, and it comes with it's very own rainbow!

Below is the only sewing I've done all week. I wanted to make something to put on a t-shirt for Halloween.  This will be it. Pattern is free from Artisania - the blog. The artist is Sonja Callaghan. You can find the pattern at Sewhooked / free patterns. (Only free to use for personal use - It is a jack -o-lantern, but I didn't do the eyes, etc.) 2 more seams to finish.

Binkie Minders - saw them a while ago on "One Pretty Thing" and since my new Grandboy is having troubles keeping his away from his Doggie Sister and Doggie Brother. (Well, you know the rules... if it's on the floor it belongs to the dog.)  It's alot of work for a 1 month old to keep track of the thing...

so Grammy to the rescue! (Sending these tomorrow, Sarah :-)

 

This is the first block of the next project - already in progress - before the last project is finished, of course. I work better when I've got 2 or 6 in the works. So keep watching to see what it is.

Putsing and plants

I decided to puts (meaning to sew stuff I want to sew - nothing on deadline) for a while before I start back to quilting new grandson"s quilt. I found that the word (putsing) is not in my dictionary, and I'm hoping you all will just figure out what I mean.

Here's what I'm putsing around with....

Some paper piecing. I'm thinking about a quilt with rows of butterflies, ladybugs, etc.... all little paper pieced gems.

Here's a leaf that is going to be fall colors. What? Green is a fall color, too.

The latest look at the Magnolia I started from seed last fall.  I tried separate seeds in maybe 10 different  containers. This is the only one I got to grow. (Those $1 large drinks from McDonald's work really well, especially for trees. They want a deep container. I cut a couple of holes in the bottom sides for drainage, and put a salad bowl from Wendy's to catch the excess water.) It is getting really big leaves now, and I am proud as a peacock.

Here is a tiny twosome of MIL Tongue.  They were all rooted in water first... (start with a cutting and let it dry on the cut edge first (a couple of days here, we're really dry.). Then just set it into a glass with a bit of water in it.) Takes a while. They have been in dirt since early summer, but still no sprouts on the other 3. I may just have to keep those for next Halloween.  That green thumb thing is really just patience... wait and wait.....

Commissioned Quilt done and shipped - along with a few gifts

My first commissioned quilt - done and shipped

 

Below is the label - I used Fray Check on the raw edges. It should keep it from fraying. I've had a shirt that has raw edged flowers on it, and wear it at least once a week, (so it gets laundered at least once a week for 5 years or so) and the flowers are still in tact!

Below is a close up of the quilting, and the prints. The fabrics - all from my stash - that she chose are sooooo pretty.

She wanted it for the livingroom - to cuddle up in... so I made.....

 a present with the leftover squares... I used some of the waterproof fabric - the orange color - and made 6 coasters, tied with some of the backing material.

 Here are the six. The orange on the back goes pretty well with all the colors. (You can see a bit on the green one, top left, and on the brown one below it.

This is my latest "genius" idea.  It's one of those elastic bands to hold your hair back. The way I made this one, you can adjust it. I thought the grand (teen) girls might like them. This is the prototype.  Below it is extended.

I didn't want to model it myself - and I surely didn't want the hobby to model it... (I think I could have talked him into it, but nobody wants to see a man wearing this.  So (shout out to Sarah -) it is clean and never been worn.

The depression seems to have passed again.... thanks to all you well wishers! I am a bit bummed though. My favorite rubber stamp store is going out of business. Linda has been in business in Placerville for 13 years!!! as  long as we have lived here.  She feels like a close friend. They will be moving to Oregon soon. I will miss her sooooo much.Today is supposed to be National "Make A Card" Day. I should make a Bon Voyage card for her.

Now I'm off to see what this Wicked thing is over at Cheryl's blog. Somehow I missed the directions or description....

You all be good while I"m gone, and if you can't manage that, at least have fun!

"Sewing" for my little Fountain

Finally I did something to show you... not much, I'm afraid.


So it seems that my newest grandson is quite the little fountain...
(I'm the perverse granny who is proud of him.) Since the two parents are having such a time getting wetted, (even though I made 18 Pee Pee Tee Pees for the shower) I thought I'd make changing pads for under baby.  I bought water proof fabric, and pinked the edges. The fabric came in a package of 3 pieces 21" X 24" and I got it at JoAnn's. It is not only waterproof but breathable. (They suggest lots of uses, and there were all kinds of booklets to buy that show how to make cute little diaper covers from this fabric. I didn't want to get that involved.)  Below shows the 3 fabrics. I made the changing pads out of the green fabrics, and the orange will go on bibs that I have planned. The 3 pieces were $15.00 - price of a yard of it.

 

 

 Below shows the pinked edges. (Think he'll mind the pink part?  LOL)  (I give up... every time I try to put this picture on X-Large it goes blank.  The rest of them loaded the same way have no problem with being enlarged.) I also rounded the corners.... Whew! work, work, work.

On another note...
Our Foreigners (from the UK) arrived and we had a wonderful day with them. Hubby (center) and his Brother (on the right) had lots to talk about... he brought old family photos.... I even enjoyed that... (Who would have guessed that one's MIL could ever have been that beautiful. I've seen uglier movie stars!) and Brother's Partner and I talked plants and quilts... believe it!  He was wondering if a quilt he wanted to buy was worth $18,000.  (No no, you are seeing right - Eighteen Thousand Dollars!!!!!!!!!!) I have to admit that a Hawaiian Quilt might be worth that - the way he described it.

These are the two brothers - 5.5 years apart, and as different as can be. (There was another Brother in between them, and he was very different from these two. Sadly he has passed... gone ahead to find some rooms, I guess.)

It's hard to get a picture of Hubby without he is talking...

 

Sadly, they have gone home, but not until they spent 3 days at the Mall of America...(as I understand it, they tripled the US economy while there. LOL) It's always their last destination when they are in the States. I wondered why -Brother said it's the staffing. The people who help are always so nice there. Listen up shopkeepers of the UK. B' Nice! as my first grandgirl would have said 17 years ago. Treat your customers better.  After all, they are your bread and butter.


So things should settle down soon. I'm still working on the quilting of the same two quilts... want to do a really good job.... just fighting some depression - the old lady vice, I guess. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

A joke on me...

This week we are cleaning inside and out - relatives coming to visit!
So I always start by picking up - all kinds of piles of stuff are laying around. I started in the  computer room because I'm still blogging and reading blogs and that's where there was a huge pile of recipes, quilt patterns, designs I thunk up and sayings I want to use in cards, and hubby notes (indecipherable)... So this is a picture of one of the piles - there were 5 after I went through them and took them off to different places.

Top of the pile here... "A beautiful thing is never perfect. an Egyptian proverb". (It allows my quilts to exist.  Okay, remember that this is 1 of 5 piles... 

 

 

 

 

Bottom of the pile dates back to Oct of last year!!!!!!!!! and this was the last thing at the bottom!!!!!!

It's one of those disposable dust rags!!!!!  LOL

 

(pause for giggles)

On another note: Hhhhmmmmm (key of C)

This is a bit of punch embroidery I did in the 70s. No, not in 70 degree weather, but in the 1970s. (a decade in the last millennium) Some of you gals aren't even that old!  Anyway, it is on denim and a simple design. The stitches need to be quite close together to show a line within the other stitches. See the back of it in the next pic.

 

I was so proud of myself, that I was able to wade into the sewing room and find something from 40 some years ago.  (Now you know why I have so much stuff. I save it. I really don't want it to go into the landfill, if it can be helped. That's me, I'm green!)

 

So I'm off to dust, sweep spiders out of their homes, scrub, etc... Yuck! 

Wish me well... I might not make it through all that.

Quilt Show today!

We went to the Gold Bug Quilters' Guild Quilt Show today... here are the ones I liked.

She said this was made with leftovers from a bigger quilt.

This one was 3-D.  Below is a close up.

The shadows were not 3-D - so pretty and amazing. Each of the leaves are pieced, too. It's all made from jelly rolls.

I liked the snowman face on tan fabric... remember:  don't eat the yellow snow!

I gotta try some of this! (No, I wasn't tipsy - it's the way it was hung.)

This one reminded me of the Houseelf.  Wouldn't this be the Bride of your Forestman?

Such pretty colors!

The camera did not do justice to this one. I liked the way the border was done, and the Christmassy colors. The centers of the blocks are a paisley print. The rest is greens.

I guess Christmas is coming... I liked this one, too, but then red is my favorite color.

This pic is a detail of the quilting on the next picture. That whole panel in beige is quilted from the sky down to reeds and water...

Think richer deeper forest kinds of colors. I think I need a better camera.

 

Aren't these cute? I think it was a challenge, cause there were a dozen or so.

 

I did get 3 new batiks... I guess I was drooling, so my hubby encouraged me to pick out a few pieces... He's an enabler.  I think he was so happy to get into the show for free.

 

 

Sew that was the excitement here today.

 

Thanks to all that stopped by and left me some cheer. I appreciate the prayers for my daughter. We need a miracle there.
