Orchid Blooms!

I've had this orchid for maybe 15 years... no blooms until now, just before I move! I had thought to sell them all since it would be hard to move them... especially in the cold weather and smaller home. Why now?  At least I've got some pretty pictures to remember this plant.

Camouflaged by it's surroundings - do you see the flowers? Page down...

Back drop is UFOs in project boxes, the leaf is on the far right at the bottom.  The leaves below the flower are from an Easter Cactus behind it.

At this angle I see a face in the center with a beak type nose and a beautiful beard, and a star shaped crown. He (It) has multiple eyes, and a gaping mouth. Do you see it? (I see faces everywhere... at least they're not dead people.)

 

 

We tried to get true colors, but I think we did that above. With the paper behind we got out of focus, and colors that this light scrambled. Anyway, I hope you like them, and they give you some joy to start out your week.

Report on the Lighted Seam Ripper

Here's the thousand words...

As you can see the seam ripper lights, magnifies and slips into the 15 stitches to the inch stitches really easily. The working end can swivel a bit so it is at an angle you prefer. (That's the first paper pieced block of a QOV I'm thinking of giving to my Son who will be retiring from the Air Force within a year. All the blocks will have either a blue or red center and white around the edges. I might add a strip of white between rows, too.)

You know we've  been packing to move - 2,000 miles away.  We're finding things while we pack...

This is the Hubby in his old letter jacket from High School. (His sister used the jacket after he went to the military, and the letters have never been seen since.) And the old glasses he wore when we were dating....  I know, why did I marry him? Anyway, he makes me laugh, and that's a good thing. We are lucky he couldn't fit into the gym shorts... very lucky.

 

See in the background the "end of boot camp" pictures of our two sons? I'm very proud of them.

 

So it's Friday (again and already)! Really doesn't mean much when you are retired. But I hope you all are enjoying a lovely (sew filled) weekend.

Playing Hooky

I hope I don't offend any of my international readers, but here "playing hooky" means doing anything to get out of doing what you are supposed to be doing. I'm blogging, I'm at a cross roads in the filling of boxes. I've got the books and magazines packed... how do I do the rest.
Anyway here are a couple of pictures

Some leaves from my little oak - starting to turn color. Most years it goes from green to brown. Guess it is mature enough to be colored in the fall.... I'm so proud. (It's gotten little acorns for the past few years, too.)

And this is the new set of buds on an orchid I've had for 10 years or so... Now that I'm moving it decides to bloom! Isn't that the way things go? I have no idea what color or shape it will be. It's not like any of the other ones. (Window behind shows the trees we call tangerine - on the right is a Clementine (Mandarin Orange, we think) the one on the left is delicious little orbs of tangy citrus goodness.

On the window sill are some Halloween plants for the Trick or Treaters in yogurt cups. Some of those little plants are so darling, so beautiful... it's going to be hard to give them away. One near the right edge is an orchid, too. (The kind that gets little blue flowers that have a lovely spicy scent.) Much nicer than the mother plant...

One block for therapy and charity

You know I've been cleaning and packing... Well, my doctor, Cheryl of Cheryl's Teapots 2 Quilts, told me to keep on quilting - for my health!  She's a wise doctor! or is that wise acre? Anyway, this little block for Margaret's Hope Chest was just what the doctor ordered. Make some and you see if you don't feel better fast.

This time it's log cabin squares - monochromatic and for a woman - no kid stuff. Make them like Crazy Mom Quilts made hers here.

Croton Flowers (Who knew?)

They are already starting to dry up before I noticed they were even there.

 

Sorry not much quilting going on... cleaning (yuck) and packing.
