I know you are working out the clues I gave you on the last blog....

Meanwhile, I made a Hot/Cold pad for my Daughter.  It's a muslin bag of rice inside a Felix Felicis decorated bag.  Here's the "police" photos: (you know, one this way, and one that way)

This is the first bag of rice I made.  Then after sleeping on it - not on the rice bag, but on the aftermath of making it - I realized that the glue that I used to put on the heart might leave some nasty fumes and scum in my daughter's microwave.  Can't have that!  So I made a second bag, without the glue, and unfortunately without the heart.  Sorry Honey, but you can see we were thinking about you. Sew the real one is going out without glue!

Once the rice bag is inside the blue bag there is a flap that comes over (from the left in this pic) and attaches to close the outside bag with Velcro.  (Already done!)

(You can see the flap on either side!  It was my own design, and I didn't take into account that the front would bulge out from the rice bag... well, it was my first one.) This is the good luck side - place the liquid luck on your boo-boo.  It can be used cold from the freezer (freeze for 2 hours before using) or hot (from the microwave on high for 1 or 2 minutes) depending on what kind of boo-boo you have. Consult with your physician.

You remember the "correctly colored" FF... This is where it went.

Here's the game!

I have a huge, but not complete, collection of the Harry Potter Paper Piecing Patterns from Fandom in Stitches. So the other night I put them in a file, so I could find what I wanted to make next without the Internet, which, lets face it, is less than reliable. I filed, and while putting them all away neatly (really - me!?) I showed them to my hubby to see if he cold tell what the pattern would work into... It was a fun game. There were a few he could define, but most - nope!  But I got this idea for a little contest... could my peeps (that'd be you all) figure out what the pattern would turn into...?  So I'll show you a few pictures I took while sewing it up, and you decide what it might be.  First to guess correctly will win the block - that's when I'll show it.
 I guess you should recuse yourself, Jennifer... Sorry, but you would know right off, wouldn't you?

So much to share!

First a welcome to new followers! Thanks for the vote of confidence. Hope you will find some fun here, and some inspiration.

Next: You know my daughter has 4th stage breast cancer....
She had a "port" put into her chest today for blood taking and chemo input.  Yes, she has to go for more chemo.  After all she has been through chemo, a double mastectomy, radiation, reconstructive surgery, and now the "port" she is still in great spirits... looking for a "cure" in the coming months.... chemo and liver surgery to remove another tumor metastasized there from the breast cancer.  I admired her before all this. (It's okay for a Mom to admire their child.)  She is a Mom to 4 school agers (and assorted pets) and was a volunteer at their schools, at a local nursing home and at the local food bank. (All while keeping a home immaculate and doing all that laundry, shopping, etc.) Now all this and demonstrating a cheery disposition - at least for her friends and followers.  I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of her.  Please, please keep Chrissy on your list of people to pray for.  She can use all the help she can get.  Thanks to those who have been praying, and helping her in lots of different ways. You all are amazing.


Now to brighten up this place we have a work of quilting art. (No, I did not make it.)  I got a beautiful gift from a Blogger Buddy this week.  Nina Lise Moen, better known by her blog name,  Mrs. Moen sent me a gorgeous mini quilt which I am going to hang as inspiration.  I want it in the livingroom, but the sun comes in so bright there and will fade it over time. I think I'll put it in the hallway where I pass by many times during the day, and the sun won't ruin it.

She has quilted it with sparkling threads, and the roses are added after. There are yarns caught in the quilting, and she did some kind of painting on it, too. Notice the binding is put on with a decorative stitch.... I love it Nina! Thank you so much!

This is the back.... Isn't it lovely, too?

I did finish a block this week.... they just should not take that long, but I spend a good portion of my life reading blogs and getting inspiration from all of you.  This week I got a great recipe from Susan Branch for Banana Fritters;  a new paper piecing pattern called Aperture Science from the Games/Tech file at Fandom in Stitches.  It looks like the iris of a camera....  Then there was the pattern for a movable iris I could use to make a card. I got quotes from Dr. Seuss for cards, and the Irish Blessing for the shamrock cards for my Irish grandkids.... So much I learn and am inspired by on the blogs that I follow... It's just too wonderful, and keeps me occupied and off the streets... You know us old ladies would be running a muck if we didn't have hobbies. Well, here is the block I finished.

It's another HP block from Fandom in Stitches.  Slughorn's Crystalized Pineapple.  I messed up somehow, the circle should be rounder in the center. Maybe I'll figure it out on the next one. I like the piece at the bottom right... it's from a muted rose print. - couldn't tell, could you?

I'm preparing a little game for you all next time... maybe there will be a little prize, too.

Tips for getting things done.

by  "do as I say, not as I do" - a mystery woman.

1. Jump up in the morning, enthused to start the day.

2. Don't read blogs all morning

3. Don't play "Mahjong Safari" all afternoon.

4. Don't watch TV all evening.

You know what I've been doing all week... I'm an example of what not to do.

But I did finish 2 more HP blocks... one will be going to my daughter.  She needs the Felix Felicis again, I'm afraid.  This time she is getting the correct coloration. I mistakenly thought it was an acid green potion. "How could I be so stupid", as Hermione Jean would say. FF is a liquid gold color... I'm going to use it as a cover for the Hot/Cold Pack made with a rice packet that you heat in the microwave or use cold from the freezer.... I've seem them all over Blogland. She does have some achy places that some warmth could help.  We will see if she uses it.  Anyway, here are the pictures.

This one is closer to "liquid gold" color.... It has lots of love sewn in, and hopes that it will work this time - along with a lots of prayer, of course.  Please pray along. She's off to surgery again on Tues, hopefully.

I still love comments, thank you for continuing to leave them, but as some of you noticed I have stopped answering them.  Just looking for places  to have some time to sew... So to answer a question recently asked: I have no idea how many blocks are going into the HP quilt. I started making the blocks, and enjoy them - some I've made for cards and other projects, I'm kind of in a limbo of sorts. Our local Project Linus is acting in a very mercenary way, in my opinion,.... kind of greedy, actually. I've gotten some real bad feelings about their charitable intentions... But the HP quilt wouldn't go to them anyway - they'd auction it off. I can't sell it, the patterns are free only if we don't use them to sell the products. If I give it to one family member, others will feel badly.  So I'm just making the blocks for now. There are lots of patterns I haven't made yet. I'm just enjoying the making.

Has anyone out there been having troubles with DSL? Is it sun spots?  We are having to reboot this brand new laptop every paragraph or two. It is absolutely aggravating!!!!!!!

2. Jennifer at Fandom in Stitches.  A very helpful lady. She's where I get the Harry Potter patterns for free. There are all kinds of patterns for free.  She also has a second blog called Sewhooked. She makes things for her family and Project Linus, as well.

3. Melanie at Houseelf Doings.  She's from the UK, and I love her slant on things. She takes you on vacation, shows off the lovely historical buildings and has given links to learn more about them! She's a knitter, does embroidery and quilt making. Right now she's in the process of moving, but she'll be back on again soon.

4. Regina at 4 Patches 4 Hope.  She doesn't blog often, but the reason I like her is she is running this charitable blog for cancer.  You make 4 patches and she makes quilts to give to cancer victims in her area. She also collects for the American Cancer Society - towards a cure. (Since my daughter has cancer, I am always looking for a way to help.)

5. Debbie at Stitchin Therapy  does various charity works, and does a "Get Your Mrs. Claus On".  She collects doll quilt tops, makes them into dolly quilts and gives them with a (handmade) cradle to little girls who don't have much at Christmas. I gave my cardinal (which was my banner for a while) for her project. When I read about her cause the idea of a pieced cardinal popped right into my head. It must be that we are connected because her "bright spot" is a cardinal.  I had no idea.

Anyway, I want to thank Linz for the honor.  What a surprise!

Just a quickie...

In other news, I deleted some nice comments because they had a weird "link" at the end of them. Have any of you seen a comment with a "code enforcer" at the end? It scared me, so I deleted them all.  The commenter had no e-mail address listed, so I couldn't ask about it.

4 More Harry Potter blocks

Okay, I want you to think I've been really busy, but the truth is that 2 of these blocks had me stumped, so for a few months I left them floating in limbo. Then I went to the pattern site (Fandom in Stitches) and printed out a new pattern. It helped alot to see the sewing order, and a fresh pattern had clues on it to show where to sew the pieces. Especially Crookshanks was hard! Don't use that as a first paper piecing venture. Anyway, here's my newest:

The Time turner... I tried that technique where you use the back of the background fabric for the glass parts, didn't work this time. The back was significantly lighter, too, but doesn't show up that way. There's just that much variance in the fabric that you think it's just a lighter color of the right side. Oh, well. I'll know when I make it again.

I've made the Golden Egg before, and still I made a mistake... That golden point at the bottom should be background color... I can fix it, so I'll do that, but I really wanted to show you the white part. I have some fab white fabric that has silver shiny threads that run through it, and it looks really magical on this block, don't you think so? (I changed the pattern a mite, in that I didn't put in the musical note that goes upper right. It's really complicated, and tiny.)

 This is the Elder Wand... and I had trouble figuring out which way the parts should be assembled...

And Crookshanks, too. There is a portion - the face, etc. that fits onto another paper piecing piece!!!!!! Oh my Goodness!!!! Not a beginner piece. But I did it, and I'm quite proud that I didn't give up, completely.
