Sheeee's Baaaaack....

I've been home for a week - oh dear, it's actually almost 2 weeks already! How time flies. I can't say I've been busy. I did finish that I Spy and donate it to Project Linus. While I was there (at the Open House) one of the ladies said how someone else liked  the quilt I made for the Open House... mind you they have been hijacking donations and selling them on Facebook. (Okay, I understand that charities need money for things, but to take the quilts we make for the little kids in crisis and sell them (for next to nuthin) I just think there must be some other way!)  I'm going to start giving my PL donations to a friend's PL group. Maybe the kids that deserve the quilts will get them. I don't trust the locals. Here's that donated quilt finished, and a couple of the blocks.

You can see my poor attempt to quilt it. The polar bear reminds me of AK and my Son who loved polar bears as a kid.
Here's a few pics from our trip to AK... we had such a good time.

Alaskan beauty - that's the back of my son's head lower left.

This is my son the "First Shirt". He's an advisor, and councilor to Air Force personnel who get into trouble. He's been in over 20 years now. We are so proud of him. And his daughter , the graduate! The first of our grands to graduate high school! We are very proud of her, too.

More Alaskan beauty! We were there May 7-14 and there were still snowbanks all over. This is in the mountains around Anchorage, way more snow than down in the city.

This is a family portrait at graduation. L to R: the graduate = Alyssa, DIL &  mom = Michelle, dad = Scot, our son, and brother of the graduate = Christopher, our grandson (who is an interesting story, too, but for another time.) Aren't they a handsome bunch... more Alaskan Beauties! (The graduate caught one of the balloons as they fell from the 2012 - it's a 2 upside down.)

And this is the graduate! Isn't she pretty?  I think so, and she has nice manners, a great bubbly personality and such a helpful girl. (She gave up parties with her friends to entertain her 2 grannies and her gramps. (So thoughtful! Brings tears to my eyes!)

Well, I know this is supposed to be a quilting blog, and I do have more pictures of Alaska, and the fabric I bought there. You won't want to miss that! But I'll have to do it next time. The Hubs is bugging me to relinquish this machine.  What is he thinking?

Until next time...

Hugs,
Terri

Last post for a week

I'm gone to Alaska today, but I wanted to show you the quilt up on the design wall ready to baste when I get back. Yes, I baste on the design wall. (Mine is made of craft board... soft middle with a hard top and bottom.) I pin up my blocks when designing. I like to baste this way because I don't have to bend down all day using the floor, and I don't have people walking on it, and I don't have to try to get up from the floor...I'm just that old.
Anyway, here's a UFO I found while cleaning... drastic, I know, but I tidied a bit!  So here's what  is on the wall now. See the batting and backing? I have pins all around to hold it all taut, then I baste... big stitches on the back, and little ones on the front. (I found that big stitches on the top catch on protrusions on my sewing machine... and we can't have that now. Can we?  I'm hoping to get this one done and bring it along to Open House for Project Linus... (Bet you are getting tired of that phrase.)

So, again, so long for a week!

Hugs,

Terri

OMG!

This is the first time I'm blogging since Blogger changed... I'd have bet the input screen couldn't get any smaller than the old one... Wrong!

Anyway, I finished my H2H and the quilt for the Project Linus Open House.  Here are the pictures...

H2H - button on the side panel - 2 charities, mine will go to the cancer one.

Project Linus donation for the Open House - make a quilt with your favorite color and any of it's tints or shades. Voila!

I really hate making things with a deadline, but I'm glad I made them, and they are gone on their way tomorrow.  And so am I. The Hobby and I are off to AK (that's Alaska) tomorrow. Our granddaughter, Alyssa, will be the first of the grands to graduate!  So we will be there with bells on! We are so proud. And we  are visiting our son and family for a week. Our first time to AK.  I can't wait.

So you are on your own for a week. (But I know you will be alright - after all, you were alright last week without me.)  I hope we will have some wonderful pictures to share with you then.

Hugs,
Terri

Show and Tell

Hi Friends!

I've been busy...

Do you notice that this picture is upside down?  Just keeping you on your toes!
This is the quilt for H2H (see the button in the side bar). I have the flimsy done...

and this is the flimsy done for the Project Linus Open House Challenge.  Am I done? Do I need borders on either of these? I'm thinking I'll need to quickly sew the strip quilt that is underneath first and take down the little triangles quilt so I can use my design wall to baste the two challenge quilts. Should have  been working when I was playing computer games. Now I'm up against two deadlines.
Let's see if I can finish them on time. Pink and Red needs to be done by May 4 and May 27 for the H2H quilt.  I'd better get back to work!!!!

For those of you praying for my Chrissy - Thank you and please keep up the good work.  She is back to chemo again. She had the first round last Tues. and is feeling better from that, but the side effects hit her already on this first time, and well, lets just say they are awful. The courage it takes to do this again is phenomenal, IMO!  I could not admire her more.

Thanks for stopping by!
Hugs,
Terri

Chrissy is getting better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

=^..^= is what I learned today. I don't remember where I saw it, but it was on one of the blogs I follow, and I just had to try it myself.  Aren't you proud that you stopped here.

My Chrissy is getting better and better. She can walk the stairs to take a shower, but on the way down (after the trip up, and a shower) she needs a nap... Understandable after what she's been through. She has now added a few easy (hopefully) chores, and can do some things around the house. I am always amazed by that woman.

I've only sewn a few rows on my pink and red. Needs to be done sometime in April for the Project Linus Open house.

Notice I have 3 quilts now -overlapped - on my design wall. Can you see them all?

A better view of the laziness.

Here's the bunnies I made to be puppets for my kids and grandkid cards... I just ran out of interest in them. I threw them all into a project box... I hope they aren't doing any math...

The grey ones were to be "grey hares" given  to the kids who gave me so many of them...
and the white ones were for the grandkids... but they are all too old for finger puppets now, and pretty much only interested in computer games and boys.... What's a granny to do?

I just don't like how the bunnies turned out, so I'm not giving them out.

We have had a turn in fortunes, and the car needs fixing... $400 to the radiator. (Never talk about money in front of your car... We got our tax return, and the car must have known.) It'll be more troubles after that. We've had it a long time, and it is a 2004 model. We've just been lucky to this point that nothing major has come up until now.  For the weekend we are prisoners in our house.  We'll probably walk up to the Taco Bell for a special treat for our Easter Dinner. Can't get the car into the shop until Monday morning. C'est la Vie!

Hope you all have a fun and Blessed Easter.

Hugs,
Terri

Update on Chrissy, quilt blocks, shopping, new grandbaby 2 B

Thought since you all are praying for my Chrissy that you might like to know that she is home from her surgery - 55% of her liver and 2 lymph nodes removed - and resting (hopefully).  She made it through with flying colors!!!! She is recovering nicely - relapsed one day in the hospital because of all the visitors and phone calls... so they moved her to a new room. She has to walk with a walker right now, and can't climb the stairs.... but she is home.  Her dog ran around in circles when she got home, and then approached Chris very carefully... dogs just know.
Please don't stop praying though. There is chemo coming up in 3 weeks or so, and she will need all the help she can get... again.
Thank you so much for all your help...

I have been sewing on 2 quilts. (Sort of maniacally, I'm afraid.)  The blocks are pretty much completed, well here's the pics...

The red and pink blocks are 5" finished and they are going in a quilt for Project Linus for the Open House in May. We were to make a quilt using only our favorite color and it's shades and tints. You know I loooooove RED. (Notice that my phone is located on, right on, my sewing machine cabinet...just in case my Chrissy should call.)

You've seen these paper pieced blocks, 7" finished, the centers are all yellow, or all pink, or all lavender with the same multicolored batik print around.  It's for the H2H (Hands to Help) Charity Quilt Challenge. Use the link; go there and check it out. There is still time to join in the fun. There will be tutorials, visiting celebrities and prizes. There are two different charities... well, lots of fun besides being a worthy cause.
Yesterday the Hubs went to the chiropractor, and I got to spend the same time at Hobby Lobby. It's new in our area...  I don't go often, cause it is 20 miles away, and I find way too many "wonderful" things there. Yesterday, I found a plaque for my Chrissy, a mold for bangle bracelets to use with resin, and, of course, fabric. I think the man would faint if I came out of that store without fabric. I got a few more pinks. For some reason I don't have alot of that color... must have used more of that than all the rest....Here's a look-see
all washed and ironed, and used in new blocks.

And now (dat da da dah!) the next Brandgaby  Grandbaby to be - Mason Scott Johnson to arrive Aug. 21, 2012 or there abouts.(Our #8 - that's a lucky number, you know.)  Our 44th anniversary will be on the 10th, my Dad's birthday on the 1st, Hubby's Dad's birthday on the 24th, the Mommy's birthday on the 13th, and now another birthday... we'll have a busy August. Just the way I like it.

Sew to summarize:  Please keep praying for my Chrissy!  Sewing like a whirling dervish. New Grandbaby this summer. That is all... for now!
Thank you for visiting.... Hugs to you all!
Terri
