So since they updated something on my computer, I can't access the title field! I hope the publish and save buttons work.
Anywho, I made 2 pink blocks for a charity for breast cancer (bugger doesn't deserve capital letters) that Sarah from Confessions of a Fabric Addict mentioned on her blog. Since it's a cause close to my heart (not me!!!) I like to join in whenever I can.  Here are the two blocks I'm sending.

 

Hubby took some flower pictures from our yard, too. Here's a little Spring from CA

 

 These are Pineapple Guava (a bush) - aren't they pretty and unusual. The fruit isn't that good, and you've gotta be Johnny on the Spot to make any use of them, so we don't. The possum gets them all.

Tiger Lilies from my #1 Son and DIL years ago. They're still good in a bigger pot, and I'm hoping to plant them out at my next house - where ever that is.  The pot is clustered with a tangerine (I started from seed) and the pomegranate I bought at the grocery... it needs repotting, but I wanted to wait until we are at the next house... There is also a variegated holly plant that I bought at Lamb's - a grocery in the NW... I've had it a couple of years now, and it's gotten berries on it. Right now they are light colored. Maybe I can start a new one from the seeds???? Anyway there are other plants in those pots, too; an orange rose that I started from a cut stem in a bouquet, and a little single white rose that I started from seeds that my hubby gifted to me 20 years ago. There are a couple of Buckeyes from seeds and a couple of other trees that the squirrel or birds planted. It's a nursery in the making.

Mom's Day Early

My son, the Master Sergeant, and his lovely wife sent me flowers - already!

Part of the note says "wonderful mother"!  I couldn't be happier.  I'm carrying them around with me, so I can see them where ever I am.

May is Green!

Isn't it though.... Here all the trees are leafed out and the flowers are up and showing off. Love this time of year.

It's also green month over at Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Go on over there if you'd like to see what others are doing with their green scraps.  Here's what I'm doing with mine. (Those are random triangle shapes attached to various white on white 5" squares.)  (At the top of the picture is the light switch! Lol)

These are blocks in the granddaughter wedding quilt. I've arranged them like they were a flock of flying birds.

It'll be very symbolic, I think.

 

More purple than before, and I have more that are waiting to be hung on the design wall.

Earlier in the week, Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict asked what was our all time favorite fabric... well I found some!  This is the yellow rose print I love.  This may be the last of it, too. These 3 little pieces will be birds in the 1st granddaughter's wedding quilt.

 Aaaaaand I got some fabric in the mail this week. Thanks Sis! (There is a solid dark purple missing from the picture... got sewn up already!) These will work into ARB's wedding quilt soon.

What Makes Your Day?

I know a finish of the current quilt would make my day, but that won't happen for a while.  I did find a wonderful "Make" for this day...

Okay, you aren't impressed, but this little plant - a silk oak - was started from seed last August or earlier. I almost gave up hope. (I got to the local momma tree quite late in it's seed making season and all the seeds had been dispersed already, so I sifted through the dirt on the street looking - brought home some dirt, and "planted" it. All this time I have been hoping for the little miracle.  Makes me so happy. (Patience pays off.)

I went out to photograph these little wonders...

The first Cosmos of the year... they seed themselves in this pot of the first silk oak I grew. (There have been a few others - given away at Halloween.) Every year the Cosmos grow about 3 feet tall. Don't know why, but this strain is strong... and cheery, don't you think so?

When I came inside I found this bloomer. It wasn't there on Sunday when I watered last.

Now for a before and after shot of my latest home improvements:

New kitchen lights... not for me, but to sell my house.  Why do we do this?  (They make the ceiling look higher.)

So even though the car died yesterday, and the hubby had to get AAA to tow her to the car hospital, it's still a wonderful day. (That is because we do have enough moola to fix it... otherwise the sweetness of the other events would have been overshadowed. You know the feeling.)

New purple blocks and Lupine

We've been gone for a while... to Boise Idaho, of all places. We looked for a new home, but didn't find one. Scary business.


And while we were gone I changed my mind \again/ about the quilt I'm making for my granddaughter's wedding present. The one I'd worked on was too dark. Here's the dark one.

 

This one will have more colors, already there are red, orange, blue and green blocks made, but since it is still April I'm only showing the purple ones for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

More Purple Blocks

Here are some of the purple blocks I made this week.
These first six are leftovers, except for the one on the top right... I found a place for that one.

The pink blue yellow and teal print has to go in the quilt - and her cousin's quilt as well - because of the top I made for each of them when they were about 2.  There are other memory pieces in the quilt.

 

 

On Saturday, go to the RSC14 (3rd button on the side panel) to see others' purple blocks for April.

Lumber Jacks - Me and Him

Lumber jacks have nothing on us oldies. He is 71 and I'll be 66 in a few weeks and we sawed down our dead avocados yesterday.  It's kind of heart breaking. I started those two from pits. One was 16 and the other probably 12 or 13. Just had to do it though. They froze badly early this winter.  Here are the pictures of the poor things.

 

He pulled with a rope, and I cut with our little electric chain saw.  (All those brown leaves are from being frozen. There were some green leaves, but trying to sell the house, these brown trees wouldn't be helping.) Did you notice that we missed the little rose and a new oak growing next to the trunk. We got the avocados to go right where we wanted them to go. No broken fence, no destruction of their house or ours. We figure we saved a thousand or so.

 

Afterwards I went back to this:

 

 

Sew and cut - not in that order.
